LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

Compose Clear and Coherent Sentences Using
Subordinating Conjunctions

Background Information for Learners

Subordinating Conjunctions connect a subordinate clause to a main clause. We
can write sentences with a subordinating conjunction in one of two different ways. If
a sentence begins with a subordinating conjunction, use a comma to separate the two
clauses.

Example:
If he fails, he may be disappointed.
He may be disappointed if he fails.

Learning Competency: Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate

grammatical structures - Subordinating conjunctions - EN6G-IIh-8.3, EN6G-IIh-8.4

ACTIVITY 1
Directions: Read the text below and answer the questions that follow.

Be Productive
Joymarie A. Roploc

Are you bored of staying at home and doing nothing during these quarantine
days? Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, classes have been cancelled and
children are at home with their parents. You can combat boredom by being productive
and keeping yourself busy. You need to start creating a better daily routine. Here are
some routines to ease your boredom.
Involve yourself in doing household chores. When you contribute to household
chores, it helps you feel competent, responsible and independent. One reason is that
children feel competent when they do their chores. Whether they fix their beds, sweep
the floor, or help hang wet clothes and fold them when dried. You can help out around
the house in many different ways. Children like you need chores that will prepare you

for the real world. Even though it sounds difficult at your age, this is the right time for
you to be able to learn those things and enjoy them.
Moreover, you can be the source of energy among your siblings. Help them
establish healthy habits by setting time limits on electronics or some screen time.
Encourage your siblings to have other interest and activities that have nothing to do with
gadgets. Usually two hours of watching TV, video games and other computer games is
good. Since reading is proven to improve child’s brain development and vocabulary
skills, make reading a habit. You can also start backyard gardening. Gardening is actually
a self-rewarding activity. One must be so happy watching his plants grow and somewhat
gives some hope even if we are in this challenging times. It gives us great physical
activity.
However, being productive becomes possible only if one is healthy. Eating more
fruits and vegetables is one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy. Wash
hands always with soap. Wear mask amidst crowd.
In this time of uncertainty, you can do something great to fight COVID-19, the
invisible menace in the society. Be productive! Be positive in living with the new normal
environment.

family. Mother clearly explained to Marie that she only bought vegetables because meat

sweetly agreed with her idea.
On their way home, they saw a beggar on the street. The beggar was walking slowly
because he was so hungry. Marie felt sad for the beggar. So, she quickly took out the bread
they bought in the market. She eagerly gave it to him. The beggar ate the bread hungrily.
