people. They wear their colorful costumes and covering their faces with mask just to hide
their true personality. He loves to watch heroes like Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder

Ben was so upset. He turned off the television and saw his mother in the kitchen. He sat
beside her mother then said, “Nanay, if only Superman and Batman were here, they will
kill COVID-19.”
Nanay Benita smiled at Ben and replied, “Anak, Superman and Batman are not
real.” “Today’s heroes no longer wear cape or having supernatural powers but those who
wear masks, lab suit and personal protective equipment. They have no supernatural powers
but bravery.
“Who are those heroes, Nanay?” asked Ben.
Nanay Benita replied, “Front liners are our true heroes, they are the brave ones.
These are the health authorities, military and police personnel, journalists, food delivery
drivers, government employees, bank employees, janitors, and garbage truck collectors.”
“Really! So Tatay is a true hero too because he is a policeman and he is so brave”,

The theme is the central message or idea of a narrative. It tells the reader what the
literary piece is all about. It is expressed through what the characters say, do and think, and
through the actions that take place within the story. The theme is also revealed in how the
plot and setting of the narrative are constructed and presented.
The point of view is the perspective from which the narrative is told. This also refers
to the mode of narration that authors employ to let the readers hear and see what takes place
in the story.
Authors can strategically choose and allow them to develop the characters and tell the
story most effectively. They may choose to tell the story in three perspectives.

1. First Person Point of View involves the use of either the two pronouns, “I “and “We”.
2. Second Person Point of View employs the use of “You”, the writer uses onlooker who
is saying something about you-the reader.
3. Third Person Point of View uses pronouns like “he”, “she”, “it”, “they” or a name of a
character.

Behind COVID-19 pandemic there are amazing stories that I have seen over the
internet and in the news. One of these is about Chichi, once a stray dog who became a
COVID-19 Dog Frontliner.

UNTV News mentioned in its feature news that Chichi lives in Barangay 379 Zone
38 District, Metro Manila. When they interviewed barangay chairwoman Veronica
Diasanta, she said that Chichi arrived in their barangay in the year 2019. The dog is usually
found around Alergi Abad Santos Station. One day the followed a barangay executive
officer who was on his way to the barangay hall. Chichi stayed with them. They took good
care of her and trained her. The chairwoman also said that Chichi is a strict, smart and quick
learner. She is quick in spotting suspicious person and even scavengers. Because of her
skills and abilities, she became a frontline during the quarantine period. Chichi
accompanied barangay security and other barangay executives in their operations and relief
goods distribution. The barangay gave Chichi a frontliner ID for protection and
identification.
Being an adorable dog, Chichi is easily loved by the people around the barangay.
People claimed that Chichi is so affectionate and friendly. She knows everyone in the
barangay.

This is really an amazing story!

Viral Mobile and Virtual Graduation Rites
SDO Cauayan sparks amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. It became popular all over
the country because of different styles of different schools in conducting mobile and virtual
graduation rites and was aired to different TV Stations. This brilliant idea of Dr. Alfredo
B. Gumaru Jr. gave learners and parents new hope despite the current situation. They would
feel and experience graduation in unique alternative way. After the Enhanced Community
Quarantine was lifted, Dr. Gumaru announced the conduct of graduation rites, may it be
house to house or virtual. He reiterates the strict observance of social distancing and
wearing of face masks measures. Parents and graduates appreciate such gesture of the
department. The viral mobile and virtual graduation and recognition of SDO Cauayan City
is a manifestation of resiliency and smartness.

SDO Cauayan City Empowering Teachers in Module Writing

In the middle of the crisis, the Department of Education is planning for the school
to open and how to deliver learning in compliance to DOH Health Standards. Different
surveys were floated to the field until Blended Learning Modalities was conceived.
Teachers were tasked to write modules and learning activity sheets for the consumption of
the learners in the coming New Normal School Year 2020-2021. I was one of the lucky
chosen few. We, module writers, eBook and LAS developers were having hard time and
sleepless nights in this brainstorming task in modules, LAS and eBook developing. But
nevertheless, we enjoyed doing it because we are learning and the thought that these are
for you-our dear learners.
