III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

A. MOTIVATION

Before we proceed to our lesson for today,

I know all of you here know how to sing
right? I want all of you sing this song that I’m
going to play .

(Playing a video with a person playing a

keyboard)

Do you have an idea what’s our topic today?

Students are singing
B. PRESENTATION

In connection to our topic for today, we will

be learning the major scales and chord

Are you ready?

Yes, Ma’am

C. LESSON PROPER

What is Major scale?

A scale is a sequence of notes in ascending and
descending order. While there are many types
of scales, all of them have their foundation in the
major scale. It is the most commonly used scale
in Western music going back for hundreds and
hundreds of years.

All major scales use the following pattern of half-

steps and whole-steps (as reviewed in "required
skills"). The numbers represent different scale
degrees (notes). W = whole-step and H = half-
step.

Using this pattern, any major scale can be

constructed given any note and a scale degree.

- The major scale is constructed with this

formula. W’s represent whole steps and H’s
represent half-steps.
- Let’s build a C Major Scale. Our starting note
will be C.

Semitone- the smallest interval on the piano.

It’s the closest note to another note.
AKA: Half-step
C-C#, C#-D, D-D#, D#-E, E but semitone
above E? it’s just the next note on the piano
which is F
In this case of course all these are
semitones
F-F#, F#-G, G-G#, G#-A, A-A#, A#-B, B-C

Tone- two semitones, AKA: whole step/tone

C-D, C#-D#, D-E but what about a tone
above E? F# that’s semitone from E-F and a
semitone from F-F# and F#-G, G-A, A-B, B-
C#, C#-D

Always remember that major scales are the

most important piano scales:
firstly, because they are very common and,
secondly, because they are fundamental to
understand keys.

Just like in learning the basic fundamentals

in dancing, without basics, you can master a
choreography, but you might not be able to
choreograph on your own. If you don’t learn
the basics you will build on incorrect
technique. If you want to be a good or great
dancer you have to start with the basics.

Major has 4 semitones and 3 semitones

step and minor has 3 semitones and 4
Semitones
C major chord is made up of three notes
( C - E - G)
we have to count 4 half steps 1,2,3,4 then
we have to count 3 half steps 1,2,3
When we play it all together makes our
C major chord.

D minor is made up of three notes

(D-F-A)
We have to count 3 half steps 1,2,3, then we
have to count 1,2,3,4
When we play it all together makes our D
minor chord.

In E minor, who wants to volunteer?

How many half steps in E minor to make
E minor chord? Student’s participating
Count 3 half steps 1,2,3, then
4 half steps count 1,2,3,4

When we play it all together makes our E E minor (notes: E - G - B)

minor chord.

How about F major chords? Count 4 half steps 1,2,3,4 then

3 half steps 1,2,3
F major (notes: F - A - C)

When we play it all together makes our

F major chord.

G major (notes: G - B - D)
A minor (notes: A - C - E)
B diminished (notes: B - D - F)

If you composed a song using the key of C

the chords that you are going to use would
be C,D,E,F,G,A,B but if we will composed a
song using the key of G what could be the
chords we will be using? G,A,B,C,D,E,F diminished

Great!
Now, what questions do you have in your
mind?

If you don’t have any question I will be the

one to ask you.

Why do you think it is important to know the

pattern in major scale what’s the purpose
why we have to learn about it? It is important to learn the pattern
so that we are aware of the
chords we will use and other keys
as well.

That’s correct!

For example, if you are familiar with the g

major scale, you will know what chords to
create in order to compose your own song.

APPLICATION

In 1/4 sheet of paper, I want you to create a

chords using the G major scale.

I will give you some example of C major

(C-G-AM-F-G) while playing the piano

I will give you 5 minutes to complete the

task.

Are you all done? Yes, Ma’am

I want someone to volunteer in front to play

the the chords he/she create using the G
major scale. Student is participating
G- D - C - D - G - D

Give him/her around of applause!

Very good!

IV. GENERALIZATION

Now, let’s have some recap if you are really

listening.

What is Major scale? A scale is a sequence of notes in

ascending and descending order.
While there are many types of
scales, all of them
have their foundation in the major
scale. It is the most commonly
used scale in Western music
going back for hundreds and
hundreds of years.

All major scales use the following

pattern of half-steps and whole-
steps (as reviewed in "required
skills"). The numbers represent
different scale degrees (notes). W
= whole-step and H = half-step.

What are the chords of C major scale? C,D,E,F,G,A,B

How can you make chords using C major We have to count 4 half steps
scale? 1,2,3,4 then we have to count 3
half steps 1,2,3
When we play it all together
makes our c major chord.

V. EVALUATION
F G A Bb C D E.
1. What are the notes in F major scale?

Half step
2. What is the other term called Semitones?

3. What are the notes in the C Major scale?

a. C D E F G A B
b. C D# E F Gb A B
c. C D E F# G A Bb A. C,D,E,F,G,A,B
d. C D# E F G Ab B

Explanation: this is the correct sequence of

notes in the C Major scale. In the C Major
scale,
there are no sharps or flats, so the notes are
All natural. The C major scale is a
fundamental scale in music theory and is
often used as reference point for understanding
other scale and chords.

4. Which notes on a piano keyboard do not

have a black key between them?
a. A,B &F,G
b. C,D & F,G
c. A,B & D,E D. B,C &E,F
d. B,C & E,F

Explanation: The notes B,C, and E,F on a piano

do not have a black key between them. This
is because the black keys on a
piano are sharps or flats, and these notes
do
not have a sharp or flat between them.

5. How many notes are there in the G major

scale?
a. 8
b. 7 A. 8
c. 6
d. 5

Explanation: there are 8 notes in each scale

for example in C major, c major scale has
C, D, E,F, G, A,B and the higher is C.
