    Leading Innovations, Transforming Lives


    Commencing my internship on February 2, 2024, at the esteemed Analytical Research
    Center (ARC) of Batangas State University - Pablo Borbon, I was privileged to undergo a
    comprehensive orientation session led by Ms. Mae, the seasoned laboratory technician. This
    initial immersion provided a detailed overview of the facility's laboratories and equipment,
    accompanied by insightful explanations elucidating their operational functionalities and
    theoretical foundations. Following this orientation, Mrs. Ivy entrusted us with the task of
    acquainting ourselves with the equipment through independent study of their operational
    principles. As the day drew to a close, we diligently engaged in routine laboratory maintenance
    activities to uphold the requisite standards of cleanliness and orderliness.

    The subsequent day within the ARC commenced with a focus on morning tasks aimed at
    sustaining the cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, in strict adherence to
    directives from Ma’am Anette. In the afternoon, the laboratory technician delivered an instructive
    tutorial on sample preparation techniques tailored for UV-Vis analysis.

    February 8, 2024, heralded an important juncture of pedagogical discourse, as Ms. Mae


    imparted comprehensive instruction on a variety of analytical procedures available within the
    research center. Special emphasis was placed on methodologies relevant to food sample
    analysis, including AOAC 942.05, AOAC 934.10, total suspended solids, and pH levels. Later in
    the day, interns collaborated with Mrs. Ivy to conduct a guided tour for first-year BS Biology
    students, simultaneously embarking on the development of an equipment manual for the ARC.
    Continuing our efforts on February 12, 2024, we meticulously advanced the development
    of an exhaustive operational manual delineating the functionalities of center equipment. This
    endeavor was complemented by comprehensive research into calibration procedures and
    optimal operational protocols.
    February 13, the day preceding Valentine's Day, marked the initiation of a significant
    project involving extracting coconut oil from meticulously prepared coconut milk. Leveraging
    centrifugation as the preferred method for oil extraction, we meticulously executed preparatory
    measures, culminating in afternoon sessions dedicated to UV-Vis analysis.

    From February 6 to 26, our internship endeavors were characterized by sustained efforts
    in coconut oil extraction sourced from various locales across Southern Luzon. Culminating on
    February 27, 2024, we were privileged to receive erudite instruction from Ms. Mae on the
    intricacies of calibrating the Mettler-Toledo pH meter, followed by practical application across a
    diverse range of samples.
