IMPORTANCE OF FOOD AND NUTRITION IN KEEPING HEALTH

ABSTRACT

This article refer about the importance of food and nutrition in keeping health. Food is the third
most important thing for living beings to provide energy and expansion, sustain life, or stimulate
growth after air and water. In fact, it is one of the most complex sets of chemicals. Food plays an
important role in improving health and disease prevention. In general, these consist of essential
nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins that are used to provide
nutritional support for an organism and are ingested by the organism and assimilated by the
organism’s cells to maintain health. These nutritious foods are in the form of grains, nuts, fruits,
vegetables, oils, etc. We must know that the terms ‘food’ and ‘nutrition’ are sometimes used
synonymously, which is not entirely correct. Food is a mixture of various ingredients consumed
for nutrition. In contrast, nutrition represents a dynamic process in which the food eaten is used
by the human body for nutrition. The more we eat, the more our body will get nourishment.
When protein, energy or carbohydrate intake is inadequate, there is often disease or infection.

Essentials nutrients are component in foods that our body can’t make on its own and that we
need to grow, function and stay healthy. There are six classes of essential nutrients.
Carbohydrates are the main source of calories, or energy in the diet. Fat also give us energy and
help with normal growth and development, immune function, vitamin absorption, hormone
production and more. Proteins and the amino acids they are made of are major structural
components of our bodies cells, and are responsible for building and repair of tissues and
maintenance of muscle and body mass.
There are 13 essentials vitamins which have important jobs such as keeping our nerves
healthy. It helping resist infection, assisting with blood clotting and keeping our metabolism
running. Minerals are only needed in small amounts but plays a vital role in muscle contraction,
fluid balance, food digestion, bone building, blood pressure regulation and more. Water is also
an essential nutrient that delivers other nutrients to cells, regulates the body temperature, acts as
a shock absorber and lubricant, and helps in the removal of waste from the body. Bioactive
compounds are not considered essentials because they haven’t been shown to lead to
deficiencies. Bioactive are a big part of nutrition’s research and scientist are trying to better
understand and unlock their potential health benefits. Bioactive that likely heard of are
carotenoids.
These colorful plant pigments found in bright red, yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables act as
a powerful antioxidant and may help prevent some types of cancer and heart disease, reduce the
risk of eye disease and enhance the immune system and more. Resveratrol is another bioactive
found in the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries and mulberries that may have reduce the risk
of heart disease. Flavanols are a part of the flavonoid family that are found in tea, red wine and
cocoa and may positively influence our cardiovascular health. Phytosterols are steroid
compounds in plants that may lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health.
Phytoestrogens, found in many plants including soy and other legumes, are also being studied
for their potential in reducing the risk of breast cancer.

Healthy eating is important at every age, but the amount of nutrients we need an our bodies
ability to process them, can change over time and depend on our personal health status. As we
age, we may need more vitamin D and calcium for bone health, more B12 for brain and blood
health and more fiber for a healthy digestive system. Some people may also need more water as
their sense of thirst declines. Our medical conditions or the medications we take, may also
requires us to adjust our diet. It’s important to talk with our health care team when deciding the
best nutrition plan for us. But most people can get the healthy nutrients they need from a well-
rounded diet of nutrient rich fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains, such as
recommended in the US Dietary Guidelines. Some people with deficiencies, certain disease and
condition, or with evolving nutrional needs at different stages of life, may consider dietary
supplement to add missing nutrition to their diets.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, a healthy diet and proper nutrition can prevent health problems, and supply your
body with the right balance of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamins. A diet that
contains all types of food in the required amount is called a balanced diet. So for a person to live
a healthy life, he should pay attention to diet and make sure it is a balanced diet. Food is one of
the basic human needs. Therefore, there should be no problems that can cause serious health
problems to protect the rights of consumers. Various scientific techniques have been developed
to protect consumers and screen out disorders in food.
