A group of students carried out fieldwork to learn more about tourism in South Korea. They
decided to test the following hypothesis:
Hypothesis: Tourists who visit for film-induced tourism tend to spend more money for their
holiday.
To investigate the Hypothesis: Tourists who visit for film-induced tourism tend to spend more
money for their holiday, the students decided to conduct a short survey with tourists at some of
the filming sites for ‘Crash Landing On You’.
1 (a) Design two close-ended questions that students must include in their survey. State one
advantage of close-ended questions. [5]
(b) As part of their investigation, the students decided to visit one of the film sets in Taean,
which is a 3-hour journey from Seoul. They wanted to go to the military village that was
specially built for the film, in order to conduct their survey with the tourists there.
Describe the considerations they should make before conducting the survey in Taean. [3]
(c) The students found a line graph titled “Total tourism receipts in South Korea from 2010
to 2019 (in billion U.S. dollars)”.
Identify a secondary source of data where they could have obtained this line graph.
Suggest why primary data collection methods would be more useful for this investigation. [2]

(d) The students surveyed 50 tourists and collated their data into Table 1, as shown below.

(i) Complete Fig. 1 (Insert), which is a bar graph that the students have used to
present their data to address the Hypothesis: Tourists who visit for film-induced
tourism tend to spend more money for their holiday. [3]
(ii) State the conclusion that the students can make regarding Hypothesis: Tourists
who visit for film-induced tourism tend to spend more money for their holiday. Use
evidence from Fig. 1 to support your answer. [2]
(iii Explain why the data collected in Table 1 may not be reliable and suggest one way
) to improve its reliability. [2]
(e) Another group of students wanted to study if Seoul is a “tourist-friendly” city. Their
teacher suggested that they walk along various streets in Seoul to conduct their
investigation and they agreed to do so by making relevant observations.
Besides conducting a questionnaire survey, outline how the students may carry out the
investigation. [6]
(f) As an extension to their investigation, the students thought that the country of origin
might affect how tourist-friendly Seoul is perceived to be. Identify and describe the type
of map that they can use to present their findings. [2]
