IN PERU

THE SAUSACOCHA LAGOON

Sausacocha Lagoon is located at 3200 meters above sea level, northwest of the city of
Huamachuco in La Libertad. Its name means "lagoon that never dries up."It is situated
in an area of approximately 4 square kilometers, where you can find not only this
natural attraction but also a family recreational center. This center features playgrounds
and sand courts for playing soccer. Additionally, there are several restaurants and
accommodations around the lagoon.
In its surroundings, there is a large amount of flora, such as totora reeds, reeds, and
other plants that serve as an ideal habitat for wild ducks and gallinules. Inside the
lagoon, you can also find freshwater fish such as trout and carp. As is the case with
several natural places in the Andes, Sausacocha Lagoon is imbued with cultural
significance expressed and shared through local myths.

 A picture is worth a thousand words
 Take part in local water sports competitions

THE MILLPU NATURAL POOLS

The Turquoise Waters of Millpu are a desired tourist destination that hides one of the
greatest landscapes in Ayacucho and Peru. Below you will learn all the information you
need to travel and enjoy these magnificent natural pools.
With a total of 20 turquoise and green pools (depending on the time of year), this
treasure of nature is adorned with the vegetation of the Peruvian mountains, forming a
landscape worthy of a paradisiacal postcard. The color of its waters is produced due to
sunlight and the minerals transported by the river.
One of the advantages of visiting through a tour is that an expert guide will accompany
you throughout the tour, who will give you all the information about the place in
addition to providing you with greater safety when walking. The terrain where the
natural pools are located is rocky and not entirely easy to navigate, so you have to be
very careful and not walk outside the established route.
The best time to visit Aguas Turquesas is between May and September, when the dry
season occurs and there is less chance of rain. Additionally, the color change of the
pools changes drastically depending on the time of year. We recommend avoiding your
visit during the months of January and February, since torrential rains cloud the color of
the water until it is practically unrecognizable. You can see the color change depending
on the month in the next images.
If your idea is to take advantage of the long Easter weekend to get to know Ayacucho
and the Turquoise Waters of Millpu, you should take into consideration some
recommendations. The influx of public during this religious festival, national and
foreign, increases considerably. It is therefore necessary that you plan your visit months
in advance, especially if you plan to hire a tour, since these sell out quickly during these
