Sprouts are germinated seeds of grains and are known for their numerous health benefits.
They contain a high content of living enzymes that boost metabolic processes and improve
digestion. For example: “Cancer Protection”; sprouts are a rich source of phytochemicals and
amino acids, which provide a protective effect against different types of cancer. Sprouts are
very important sources of protein. They have a detoxifying capacity. All plants in their
germination process (birth, transformation) have a great regenerative and revitalizing power
unique to maintain and restore health by purifying the body. A daily serving of sprouts
provides us with maximum vitality, being part of salads, side dishes, bread or integrating
dishes that do not have to be subjected to heat.
2. Objective (Eduardo)
Hypothesis: Our hypothesis is that it is possible, we can make sprouts with water, and
through the days some roots and leaves will grow.
Procedure:
-The seeds were placed in a glass to calculate their quantity and to make it the same.
-Then we added a little water and covered it with gazes so that the seeds do not come out
when the water is added again.
- Also we turn the glasses so that the water is not retained in the glasses and the seeds can
grow.
-After some days to water the seeds of the chia and the menestra they growed up but after a
few days the grain didn’t grow and it rotted
5. Results
We put our jars in a safe place, and check in
regularly to observe any changes.
After 2 days:
We were able to observe how the chia seeds started to sprout some roots.
After 4 days:
After 5 days
After 7 days:
We started this experiment and within a few days started to see some
exciting things. It was also interesting to talk about what was happening
with the different seeds and how they changed over the duration of the
experiment.
- At the moment the chia is the only one that is growing, the others are also growing
slowly because they have only been there for 2 days.
- Chia seeds were the fastest to pop a root.
- Lentil seeds took the longest to pop a root.
- Wheat seeds failed to germinate and rotted.
It's amazing to see how the chia starts to sprout root hairs in the jar. Me and my
classmates enjoyed counting the root hairs we saw every day. It's great fun to
watch it bloom and test our hypothesis. It is a perfect scientific activity that we did
in the lab.
7. Conclusion
- In conclusion, we could say that it is possible to germinate sprouts at home, with water,
gauze and patience.
- We can conclude on the incredible power of water when it transforms dry seeds into small
germinating plants. In this project, we discover how different seeds grow.
- We were able to test our hypothesis that seeds will sprout and grow when provided with
water and the right conditions.
- When the seeds were given water and sunlight, they sprouted fine roots. The most exciting
observation was to see the roots emerge first, followed by the appearance of small green
leaves.
- This science project is interesting because it allowed us to witness the amazing
transformation of dried seeds into small living plants. We also learned about the importance
of water in plant growth.
