Learning Competency: Explain how electrical energy is generated, transmitted, and Code: (S9FE –IVh-
distributed. j-46)

Key Concepts/ Electric power transmission is the bulk transfer of electrical energy from generating
Understandings to be power plants to electrical substations. Electricity is transported over long distances at
developed high voltages, which minimizes the loss of electricity. The power transmission sector
is monopolised by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. The power
distribution sector is regionally monopolised by multiple private enterprises. Main
enterprises are Manila Electric Company (Luzon), Visayan Electric Company
(Visayas), and Davao Light and Power (Mindanao).

1. Objectives:

Knowledge Describe how electrical energy is transmitted and distributed.

Skills Trace how electricity is transmitted and distributed.

Attitudes Appreciate the role of renewable energy resources in generating electrical energy.

Values Develop awareness to conserve electricity.

2. Content/Topic: Electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution

3. Learning Resources/ Localized SLK (Mandaue) – Science 9, Quarter 4, Module 7 (Electricity and Magnetism)

4. Procedures

4.1 Preparations Awareness 1. Opening prayer.

2. Checking of attendance.
3. Review on the Previous Lesson
4. Presentation of Lesson objectives
5. Checking of Assignment: “How is electrical energy transmitted and
distributed?”
6. Springboard Activity

Activity 1: Guess What Step?

Try to guess the correct step in transmitting and distributing electrical energy.
Choose your answer in the word box.
Answer:
Power plant  transmission station  transmission substation 
distribution substation  distribution pole  Consumer
Explanation:
The electrical energy is generated at the power station. Electricity is then
passed through the transmission station which uses a large transformer. Then
electricity will then move to the distribution substation which uses a smaller
transformer mounted on a distribution pole and finally it will be distributed to
the consumers. A service drop wire provides a path for the power from the
distribution pole to your house.

4.2 Presentation Activity Electrical energy is produced from various sources in power plants.
Providing electrical energy to the households consists of three processes:
generation, transmission, and distribution. Lesson 1 discussed how electricity
is generated in power plants. Before studying the different stages on how
electricity is transmitted and distributed to your home, first you need to do the
next activity.

Activity 2 - Connect Me.

Draw a line to connect the equipment (Column A) used in electricity
transmission and distribution to its corresponding functions (Column B).

Analysis Are your connections correct? Let us analyze the diagram below to know if
your answers are correct.
