APPROVED FOR SUPPLIER DISTRIBUTION
RES10524

LINE AND TUBE FORMATS

-NOT FOR NEW DESIGN, USE RES331216-

A. SCOPE:

To provide a standard covering general line and tube formats. All standards listed are for
reference only. See particular standards for details.

B. FORMAT:

Pro/E: Add tables to a standard format. Tables are _bend_table.tbl

Components of the model (not tracked for service) will be named:

RE123456.asm
RE123456_mis1.prt
RE123456_mis2.prt

C. DETERMINING END ONE:

Listed in order of priority:

End one should be the end that mounts to the tractor first. (Usually this end will
have a special flange or fitting.)
or if no priority
The longest straight length.

D. MATERIAL:

Material, tube OD and Wall will be called out in the table.

E. PAINTING OR PLATING:

If required, will be included in the table, example as follows:

F. DATUM SELECTION:

If sealing surface is functional:

The primary datum (Datum A) should be the sealing surface of the fitting or the tube
face that mounts to the tractor first. The secondary datum (Datum B) should be the
straight length of the tube closest to the sealing surface. (See Figure 1.)
The tertiary datum (Datum C) is specified as a datum target point on the line and
should be dimensioned from datum A and B with basic dimensions. (See Figure 3.)
The tertiary point is used to stop rotation of the line. If the clamping area of the tube
is functional:
If a section of tube is to be used for clamping, the straight length associated with the
clamping area of the line will become your tertiary datum.
If no clamped area exists, select a point towards the end of the line.

If the sealing surface of the fitting or tube face is too small to provide good
repeatability for inspection, the primary and secondary datums may need to be
reversed. If the primary datum becomes the straight length of the tube, then a
perpendicularity feature control frame must be added to the sealing surface or tube
face. (See Figure 2.)

G. POSITION AND PROFILE:

Add a posit ion not e per ASME Y1 4 .5 M t o all st raight lengt hs except t he lengt h
specif ied as a dat um ( See Figure 3 ) .

A value f or t he posit ional t olerance is specif ied in t he Posit ional Tolerances Chart
( See Figure 5 ) may be used, but act ual part requirement s should be considered.

If a t ight er t olerance, t han what is recommend, is desired, t hen only t hose st raight
lengt hs where clearance problems are f oreseen should be given a smaller t olerance
band.

Since one st raight lengt h is t o become a dat um, t he number of st raight lengt hs
specif ied should be one less t han t he t ot al.

Fitting part numbers will show in the table.

Dash numbers can be used in place of the part numbers.

L. DIMENSIONS REQUIRED ON DRAWING:

Add a Reference Crowflite Length. (See Table)

Add a Reference Total Length of unbent line. (See Table)

M. COORDINATES AXIS and DRAWING LAYOUT:

Show an X, Y, and Z axis for each view. Preferably near the number one end.
