Cummins Engine Co. Recommends the use of heavy-duty multigrade
lubricating oil 15 W-40.
that meets the requirements of Cummins Engine Specifications
CES 20071 and 20076.
Such as Premium Blue or Premium Blue 2000.
The API (American Petroleum Institute) CH-4 specification can be used as an
alternative to CES 20071.

RECOMMENDATIONS

-I checked your engine for leaks or changes in appearance.

-Drain filters, fuel tanks and air tanks daily to prevent water accumulation.

When starting the engine, depress the clutch pedal fully and without
accelerating start the engine, hold the start attempt
for a maximum of 30 seconds. If the engine does not start, wait 2 minutes
before trying to start again.

-When starting the engine, wait for the oil pressure to show on the gauge.
Allow 3 to 5 minutes for
to stabilize oil pressure and lubrication, and then if necessary, accelerate the
engine to 1000 R.P.M. until the coolant temperature
reaches 70ºC (158ºF) and then the engine can be operated normally.

Whenever the engine shuts off automatically, it is necessary to disconnect the

ignition key to restart the
engine.

-It is advisable to make position changes in the transmission at the lowest

RPM. the engine allows.
This system of operation is called Progressive Changes.

-Opere
the engine in the 1400 to 1600 range where maximum Power, maximum
Torque (Force) and the best Fuel Economy
are obtained. This being the CUMMINS recommended cruising speed range.

-Remember that the Engine Brake is a braking aid to reduce and control
engine speed. Do not use it to
perform gear changes, brake the unit completely or stop motor operation.
-When descending a slope, always engage the Engine Brake at low RPM.
from 1600 to 1800 and then allow the engine to rev up
. The best recommendation is to maintain and control the Engine Brake at
maximum RPM. but not exceeding 2000.

When arriving at your destination it is advisable to refill the fuel tanks, this will
help to avoid condensation
of water in the fuel. Avoiding future problems in the injection system.

-Before shutting down the engine that was running at full load, keep it at low
RPM. from 3 to 5 minutes, to dissipate the excess
temperature in the turbocharger and the internal parts of the engine and also
for the turbocharger to lower R.P.M.

-Cummins Engine Co. Recommends the use of a high quality heavy duty
multigrade 15 W-40 lubricating oil

of CUMMINS.

-The API (American Petroleum Institute) CH-4 specification can be used as an

alternative to CES 20071.

-The engine should never use only water in the cooling system. You must use
the coolant combination
consisting of: 50% water, 50% antifreeze, plus 1.5 @ 3.0 units of
Supplemental Coolant Additives
better known as DCA-4 for each gallon of coolant of the total system capacity
including engine and radiator.
The antifreeze must be low silicate (according to ASTM D4985 or GM 6038M)
such as FLEETGUARD COMPLEAT PG.

The Air, Fuel, Coolant and Engine Oil filters shall comply with the
characteristics and specifications
issued by CUMMINS contained in the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
Such as FLEETGUARD filters.

The air filter should not be knocked or cleaned by applying pressurized air, as
this affects the filtering capacity of the element causing damage to your
engine.
. The only way to check the condition of the air filter is
by measuring the air restriction
The air filter should be changed when the restriction indicator shows 25
inches H2O or 635 mm H2O.
