CHANGE INSTRUCTIONS
Change procedure:
1. Remove/insert all pages affected by this revision in accordance with the attached filing list.
Pages having an entry in the EFFECTIVITY column may exist in two or more different versions.
The EFFECTIVITY feature on the page heading/footer indicates which page applies to your
particular helicopter configuration. Check the EFFECTIVITY features of each sheet (front and
back page) and determine which sheet applies to your helicopter. Insert that sheet in the binder.
Discard only those sheets which do not apply.
NOTE Do not discard pages having an effectivity statement, e.g. “After SB ...−...” that at
present may not apply to the helicopter unless however, it is absolutely certain that the
stated Service Bulletin will never be incorporated, or any other stated condition will
never apply.
2. Confirm the completion in the RECORD OF REVISIONS (page ROR) and RECORD OF
SUPPLEMENT REVISIONS (page ROSR) by entering the date and your signature.
4. Destroy all pages replaced by this revision to prevent their inadvertent use.

LIMITATIONS
SECTION 2
LIMITATIONS
2.1 GENERAL
This helicopter shall be operated in compliance with the limitations of this section.
For definitions of terms, abbreviations and symbols used in this section refer to section 1.
This helicopter in its basic configuration is approved for day and night operation under Visual
and Instrument Flight Rules (VFR and IFR) provided that the equipment required by operational
regulations is installed and serviceable.
With special equipment installed and operative and under observance of the respective
procedures and limitations, the helicopter is also approved for:
− Flight with night vision goggles in accordance with FMS 9.2-11
The minimum flight crew consists of one pilot operating the helicopter from the right crew seat.
For special missions under VFR only, the aircraft may be flown by a single pilot occupying the left
crew seat, provided no passengers are seated in the right crew seat and the rotor brake is not
required for the mission. When a short collective is installed no single pilot operations from left
hand side are allowed, furthermore, CAT A procedures (if required) must be flown from the
right hand seat in this configuration.
The maximum number of occupants is 10 persons (including the flight crew).
If the optional vertical rack is installed the cabin may only be occupied when at least one fire
extinguisher is installed in the cabin.
APPROVED
Rev. 10 2−1
FLIGHT MANUAL BK 117 D-2m (HELIONIX STEP 2)
LIMITATIONS
Starting and stopping the rotor is authorized with wind from any horizontal direction up to
50 kt.
Maximum relative wind speed from any direction, except headwind ($30) . . . . . . . 30 kt
NOTE Above 16000 ft density altitude, additional performance constraints may apply
(see section 5).
When flying with relative winds of more than 25 kt from the left, increased
control activity and / or large pedal inputs may be required to maintain aircraft
heading.
Slope operations (takeoff/landing) are limited by the maximum mast moment (normal
range) and the slope of the terrain as follows:
− Ground sloping nose down (if tail clearance allows) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . max 10°
− Ground sloping up to the right . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . max 12°
− Ground sloping up to the left . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . max 8°
− Ground sloping nose up . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . max 8°
The maximum achievable slope angle may be further limited by character and friction of
the landing surface.
NOTE When the attitude indicator is used to determine the slope, the normal attitude
on ground of 3.5° nose up shall be considered. For example:
− 8° nose up slope = 11.5° nose up on attitude indicator
− 8° nose down slope = 4.5° nose down on attitude indicator
Roll oscillations might occur during nose up slope operations with high mast
moment. When encountered, temporarily reducing the mast moment using aft
cyclic will stop the oscillation immediately.
In case of mast moment indication failure, maximum slope limit is 3°, refer to
the procedure detailed in section 3.3.5.4.

Modes 1 and 3/A coding can be performed in two ways; either manually set a new code or get
a code from a previously established list. During normal operation the transponder is ready
for Mode 1 and Mode 3/A code entering direct after power on. Since Mode 1 consists of two
digits and Mode 3/A of four digits, the transponder is able to assign the entered code values
to the respective Mode (1 or 3/A). Mode S code settings are for flight identification purposes.
7.3.1 MODE 1
NOTE Only two digits are accepted as a Mode 1 code. The first number may be from 0
to 7, the second from 0 to 3. Other digits will cause CODE FAIL to be displayed.
NOTE Up to 50 Mode 1 codes can be sequentially stored and then the code list will be
overwritten from the beginning. The code list will be erased when the master
switch is set to the OFF position.

FLIGHT MANUAL BK 117 D-2m (HELIONIX STEP 2)
In the event of an emergency condition, the transponder set may be used to transmit special
coded emergency signals. These signals may be transmitted as either a military emergency
reply code, civil emergency reply code, or both. Selection is provided by the priority switch.
These signals will continue to be transmitted automatically even if the set is being
interrogated by a ground−based system and regardless of any mode previously set up, and
they will provide indications to the ground−based system that the helicopter is in an
emergency condition.
NOTE To select or return from the EMER position, the mechanically locked Master
switch must be pulled and then rotated. Proceed in a similar manner to select
the OFF position.
When the emergency condition ends or after landing, rotate the Master switch to OFF and
inform ATC by voice communication.
