Grammar: Countable v. Uncountable nouns

Countable v. Uncountable

Countable nouns are the ones that can be easily counted, so they can take the
plural form.
These apples are delicious.

Uncountable nouns are the ones that you can’t count easily and, they only take
the singular form.

There is some pasta in the fridge.

● Affirmative sentences
We use “some” in affirmative sentences when there is a small quantity, and “a lot
of” when the quantity is big.
How many apples are there? There are some apples.
How much pasta is there? There is a lot of pasta.

● Negative and interrogative sentences


We use “any” in negative and interrogative sentences.
There aren’t any apples. / There isn’t any pasta.
Are there any apples? Yes, there are. / Is there any pasta? No, there isn’t.
