Introduction
The Grammar Plan Book 1: Parts of Speech is intended as an introductory book for younger, beginner-level English and ESL students. The worksheets in this book introduce the following parts of speech: Nouns, Count/Noncount Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Comparative/Superlative Adjectives, and Adverbs. This book is primarily a book of worksheets. Each worksheet, however, contains explanations and examples of the different grammar points written in clear, simple English, so that young learners should be able to understand the content and the instructions without relying on explanations from the teacher. The worksheets in The Grammar Plan progress slowly and steadily. When new or difficult information is presented, the worksheets are relatively simple, including identification and recognition exercises. Then, the worksheets become gradually more complex, requiring learners to understand and apply the grammar points being taught. As a long-time ESL teacher, I have developed and used these worksheets in large classes as well as with private, one-on-one students. The worksheets in this book are very effective at getting students to understand English grammar without being overwhelmed. If you find this book useful, try out Book 2: Tenses, which introduces the basic English tenses, including Present, Past, Future, and Present Continuous Tense, in clear and simple English worksheets. You know that adjectives are words that modify nouns. Adverbs are words that can modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. In this section, we will focus on adverbs that modify verbs. I run slowly. Game 2 Charades
Divide the class into two teams. The teacher will call one student from one team to the front of the class, and show him one verb and one adverb (for example: run angrily). The student must act these words out. If his/her team can guess the two words, the team gets one point. After everyone has acted, count the points and see which team won!
