4th QUARTER NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL 2022

NARRATIVE REPORT

Earthquake is understood as natural phenomenon caused by the constant

movement of the earth’s crystal plates and due to climate change. It cannot be detected when and
where it would happen to anyone. It is our responsibility to practice and internalize the risk
reduction measure to eventually make a habit of being prepared before, during, and after a
calamity, be it natural or human-made.
Indeed, Earthquake preparedness should be taught well to the pupils and should
be f o l l o w e d   s t r i c t l y d u r i n g   t h e d r i l l . A l s o , a n E a r t h q u a k e d r i l l i s r e a l l y a n
immersion and if the pupils are taught what to do or how to act then actions and reactions will be
automatic. Preparedness and mitigation are key strategies in reducing disaster risk.
In this connection, the Bongabon Central School conducted the 4 th Nationwide
Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on November 10, 2022, at exactly 8:00 AM
pursuant to the division memorandum.
The drill started with an alarm that served as a signal that there was an earthquake.  The
pupils started to seek shelter and protect themselves wherever they were situated. They also
performed duck, cover, and hold under desks, tables, or chairs and remained in such position until
the shocking stop. And then, they started to evacuate from the classroom to the designated
evacuation open areas. As they performed the drill, they felt as if it happened in reality. They
behaved well and follow what their teacher instructed them.
After that, the school DRRM coordinator gave the ‘ALL CLEAR SIGNAL’ this signifies the
termination of the earthquake drill. The children successfully returned to their respective
classrooms. The drill lasted for 20 minutes. No untoward incident happened during the drill.
