Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement

1. INTRODUCTION
This submittal represents the preparation and operational procedures for flushing & chemical treatment
of the carbon steel pipeline MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1 Project.
Preparation works, Circulation & filtration will be implemented by FLUCON.
Chemical treatment & testing samples will be supervised by third party chemical specialist; NALCO.

The scope of flushing & chemical treatment includes the following:
1) Chilled water pipeline network (Supply & Return).
2) Flushing process will be performed using High Performance Filtration skid with pumping skid
connected to the DCP tapping point.
3) Filtration process is considering Full Stream filtration system including:
 Four Stainless Steel Filtration skids , each skid with (21) housing.
 Suction & Discharge Headers connecting the (4) filtration skids
 Pipe supports for Headers.
 Valves & Fittings.
 Bag & Cartridge filters 50microns, 10 microns, 1 micron.

4) Total water volume equals to 2400m3.
5) Water will be circulated by 5 Rental pumps HL‐250.
6) Flushing process will be performed in two main loops (Section‐1 & Section‐2) as shown in section no.5.

2. PRELIMINARIES:
‐ FLUCON is following the full stream filtration procedure, which means all the water in the network
pipeline will be filtered without feed & bleed strategy.
MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1
Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement:

‐ FLUCON considered that cleaning chemical stage has been finished & the chemical water drained
completely & the network refilled with fresh water; Knowing that FLUCON did the site survey &
took sample from network water and the results was as the following:
‐ TDS: around 456
‐ PH:8.8

That means network water clear from the cleaning chemical NALCO 3DT401.
MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1
Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement:

‐ As per project specifications water velocity should be 3 m/s to make sure all dirts & particles
moved & trapped in filtration skid. However; water velocity will be increased from 1m/s to 3m/s
gradually in each section of the network and this is to enable filtration skid to trap the very fine
particles.
Knowing that most of the dense debris to be found in the typical system will be below 5mm in
diameter According to BSRIA Standards (BG29‐2021 Pre‐commissioning Cleaning of Pipework
Systems ‐ Amended 6th edition) page no. 49.

3. PUMPS SELECTION
‐ Biggest main pipe size: 750mm
‐ Flushing velocity: 3m/s
‐ Flushing flowrate:
 Q = A X V
     = (0.441562 X 3,600) X 3
= 4,768.87 m3/hr

Accordingly, we select HL‐250 knowing that the roughly estimated head loss in the network, pumping
skid & filtration skid will be around 60 meters.

4. SEQUENCE OF OPERATION

As mentioned before, flushing process will be on 2 stages consists of: Filtration Stage & Final
Treatment Stage.
These stages will be applied as per the following:

MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1
Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement:

i. Filtration Stage:
The purpose is to remove pre‐existing debris and any suspend solids or foreign objects from the
main network pipe line. This step includes:
- Practically water velocity used for the filtration process will be 1m/s to 2m/s in the most work
duration. However; velocity will reach 3m/s at the end of filtration for each section to make sure
it’s clear of all dirt, Debris & suspended solids before going to the other section.
- Before running the pump, the following should be checked:
a. Flushing skid connections, to ensure no leakage.
b. Automatic air vents are open.
c. Drain points are closed.
- Filters will be cleaned when necessary, till water comes clear.

At the end of this stage, the following parameters should be checked and water quality parameters
should be as per the following before moving to next step:

Parameters  Control Limits
PH  7 ‐ 8.5
Conductivity  100 ‐ 700
Total iron  < 5 ppm as Fe
TSS  < 20 ppm

MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1
Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement:

ii. Addition of Final Treatment Chemical Stage:
The purpose is to add the final treatment chemicals to the system to ensure that the system is
treated with inhibiting chemicals to prevent future corrosion and scale problems, as per the
following:
- After the final flushing step is completed and the iron level is lower than 5 ppm is achieved and
test verified by chemical specialist and the consultant representative, all flushing activities will
be stopped and start injection of final treatment chemicals.
- Add Final chemicals depends on the chemical supplier’s procedure as follows;
 Add NALCO TRAC109 by 3.5Kg/M3 and circulate for period enough to circulate the water
volume 3 to 4 times in the network, then add NALCO 77352 with a dose rate 0.1Kg/M3 and
circulate for 4 Hrs.

Following control parameters should be achieved and confirmed by testing the final sample:

Chilled water test and control parameters (according to chemicals specialist):

Parameters  Control Limits

pH  8.5‐11.5

Conductivity  < 4000 µSiemens/cm

TSS  < 20 ppm

Total Iron, ppm as Fe 1 ppm Maximum

Nitrite as NaNO2 800‐1600 ppm as NaNO2

Total Bacteria Account <10 CFU/100ml

MISK City ‐ Site Wide Infrastructure ‐ Phase1
Flushing & Chemical Treatment Method Statement:

Test samples will be collected in attendance of main contractor/consultant.

If the test samples passed the control parameters, then flushing and chemical treatment process is
considered accomplished, and will start dismantling the filtration skids.

Note:  flushing  and  chemical  treatment  stages  will  be  processed  with  attendance  of  chemical
specialist.

6. CARTRIDGE FILTERS DATASHEET

ProClean Normal Filter Bag

Products Features:
• Higher dirt-holding capacity and longer lifetime because of the special material.
• Special handle easy installation and removal, option for Eaton type ring & FSI type ring.
• Polypropylene materials are FDA listed as acceptable for potable and edible liquid
contact according to CFR Title 21
• The Thermal welded type filter bags feature 100% welded fabrication. This
construction eliminates the bypass which can occur in standard sewn filter bags.
BROTHER proprietary Thermal welding technology produces a super-strong seam that will
stand up to even the most demanding applications without failure.
• All filter bags are manufactured with a proprietary downstream surface treatment to
prevent fiber migration. A special finish is obtained by glazing the surface, melting fibers
together to form a tight, secure downstream matrix. In addition, the weld seams are heat
bonded to eliminate loose fibers which might result during fabrication
