VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 5

Introduction
The site is located in the prestigious neighborhood of Gokulam
in Mysore. The entire structure has been crafted to be Vastu
compliant, as per the client’s request. Maintaining the square
plan, carefully constructing a facade with even projections,
retaining absolute visual appeal, were some of the challenges
that were faced by the architects while constructing the house.

Ground Floor Plan Planning of Spaces

The spatial planning of the house revolves around the
brahmasthal or the central courtyard, as per the Vastu
Purush Mandala. The double-height courtyard space
between the two levels establishes a sense of coherence.
Around the courtyard are the functional spaces - living,
dining, kitchen, parents’ bedroom, and other utility spaces.

Dining Area
A wooden ceiling with a transition of varying heights is
the highlight of the dining room, which is given a break
from the rest of the house, with a yellow metal screen
and plenty of plants.

The Courtyard and the Skylight

The courtyard provides an experience of being nestled
with nature, along with numerous green plants. The
star feature of the courtyard would be the patterned
skylight, which invites ample natural light. It puts on a
show of patterned shadows on the wall, dictated by
the movement of the sun, making it a zestful addition
to the house.

First Floor Plan Private Spaces

A walk up the stairs leads to the bedrooms, tailor-made
to suit their occupants’ personalities. The grandmother’s
room plays host to timeless art pieces whereas the young
son’s room brings to life a beige and brown color palette.
The daughter’s room has an interesting deck-balcony
space.
VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 15
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is one-of-a-kind, maintaining
a perfect equilibrium of green and grey, exuding
a rooted, earthy, and almost meditative calm
atmosphere. Other elements like the bed back
design, subtle green back painted glass wardrobe,
and interesting lighting designs enhance the overall
appearance of the room.

Terrace Floor Plan

The terrace extends gracefully from the first
floor. The Kota stone flooring and perforated
pivot screens create a secluded spot for a
bar brimming with party potential.
VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 19

Interior Material Palette

The interiors posed the task of positioning key
elements to harmonize energy flow while staying true
to Vaastu compliance, which we accomplished with
ease. The yellow Jaisalmer natural stone flooring in
combination with white-dominated walls, perfectly
balanced with greys and blues, creates a design
ecosystem that doubles up as a repository of art.
VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 21

Section AA’
The section passes through the double-height
volumes of the pooja room, courtyard, and staircase,
with a dining area on the ground floor and a study
room on the first floor. The pooja room takes a
page out of a literal temple, with the illusion of a
pradakshina path, a roof resembling a shikhara, and a
20-inch window wall- blessing the room with the first
rays of the sun.
VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 23

Section NN’
The section passes through the living area, passage and
parent’s bedroom on the ground floor and the deck, the
daughters room, passage and master bedroom on the
first floor. The daughter’s room has an unusual balcony
space, that utilizes the slab of the ground floor roof
extension as flooring and is synonymous with a floating
balcony.
VASTU HOUSE | THOMAS PARAMBIL ARCHITECTS 25

Front Elevation
The elevation is a perfect tease of lines, putting
the extent of the site in the spotlight. It seamlessly
blends into the culture-rich streetscape. The
aesthetic facade, coupled with a strategically placed
screen creates a delightful visual balance. An idyllic
sanctuary merge with the streetscape.
