2. GENERAL SPECIFICATION
2.1 BASIC FUNCTIONS
UR is connected to the dominant system like an ATM application (hereinafter, called “ATM PC”), and provides such
functions as the followings.
1) Counts and validates the banknotes that are deposited by a customer, and responds the total amount of the notes to
the ATM PC.
2) Stores those banknotes into the cassettes.
3) Dispenses banknotes, based on the ATM-PC requirements, validating each banknote from the cassettes.
4) All the notes are validated in both of accepting and dispensing processes.
5) Capable for counterfeit classification, which is typified by Article 6 of the Council Regulation (EC)
No.1338/2001 of 28 June 2001.
In the case of being required by markets of supporting currencies such as GBP, UR classifies counterfeits
separately from the other validation results to be rejected, in order to provide the other specific way of handling
counterfeits. For example, not reject to return to the depositor but withdraw from the deposit transaction.
6) In the case of supporting EURO currency, UR is capable to provide the following functions, with regard to
European Central Bank’s publication, “The Euro system’s terms of reference for the use of cash-recycling
machines by credit institutions and other euro area institutions engaged in the sorting and distribution of
banknotes to the public as a professional activity”, which regards Article 6 of the Council Regulation (EC)
No.1338/2001 of 28 June 2001:
z Classifies the accepted banknotes into the categories, such as ‘counterfeits’, ‘suspected as counterfeits’ and
‘real notes’, then send some of the categories into additional storage as specified through ATM-PC
application, in order to separate the other categories of the notes.
z Transmits the banknote data to ATM-PC through the optional USB interface. By handling the banknote data
for tracing with the external application, depositors of suspected note can be traced back, with regard to
European Central Bank’s publication defined above.
z With regard also to the European Central Bank’s publication, “Minimum standards for fitness sorting of
Euro banknotes by Cash-recycling machines” of 2 May 2002, detects unfit banknotes, which is not suitable
for recycling, and store them to the separate storage.
R consists of Upper Unit, Cash Slot Shutter assembly, Lower Unit, Cassettes, External Transport, Junction Kit and
Configuration kit.
Upper Unit works as notes management unit, and has Presenter-type Cash in/out Slot, Bill Validator, Temporary
Stacker and notes transportation mechanism connecting the above-mentioned elements each other.
Cash Slot Shutter assembly is separate assembly from Upper Unit and to be attached to the ATM Fascia.
Lower Unit works as a note storage, and has 4 or 5 Cassettes loading area and transportation mechanism.
The types of the Cassettes are selectable between Cash Acceptance Box and Cash Recycling Box for each loading area.
But at least one Cash Acceptance Box has to be installed to the Lower unit to store such notes as rejected notes in
dispensing process, the notes left behind in the Cash in/out Slot, or deposited notes not for recycling.
Junction Kit is to be attached to the Upper unit and has some selectable options, which allows Upper unit to take the
different offset positions against the safe to fit to the various installation such as Through The Wall and Lobby type
ATM.
External Transport Assembly connects the transportation mechanism between Upper and Lower Units, and to be
mounted in an opening of the safe.
Fig. 2.2.1 shows the external appearance of the UR.

(1) OVERALL
UR universally fits to the various types of banknote handling systems and customer’s applications.
UR provides the following features, succeeding and enhancing the flexibility and high quality performance of the
existing HOTS cash module (HCM):
1) Integrates Configurable Customer Interface (CCI) in the Cash Slot, which is specially developed based on Diebold
requirements for the customer’s usability.
2) Unit dimensions and configurations are prepared to fit to Diebold ATMs, Opteva 760 and Opteva 720 series (for
both Frontload and Rearload type).
3) The existing Type-4 Bill Validator (HOTS-BV (ZBV), Advanced and Basic version) for HCM can be applied.
And its currency firmware can be applied after upgrades for the use of both HCM and UR.
4) Enhances HCM’s flexibility to the various type of customer applications by succeeding the configurable and
selectable cassette layout of HCM, various cassette options, which are to be prepared in sequence, and the versatile
module layout not only to fit to ATM but also to Teller Assist system.
Presenter type Cash Slot largely consists of two parts. One is Configurable Customer Interface (CCI), which works as
interface to the customers depositing / withdrawing banknotes to / from the cash module. And another is Stack & Feed
part, which delivers / receives banknotes to / from internal mechanisms of UR.
CCI can provide three patterns of cash in operations, which are Shallow, Continuous and Deep mode, and two patterns
of cash out operations, whish are Presenting and Deep mode, by making the different ways in controlling the
components of presenter part, such as Shutter, Center Plate and Clamp belts.
Those operation modes are configurable, and ATM-PC can select each mode via firmware parameter setting.
CCI is specially developed based on Diebold requirements and Stack & Feed part has basically the same configurations
as HOTS standard UR series.
Fig. 2.3.1 shows the basic components of Presenter type Cash Slot.
Shutter
Configurable Customer
Interface (CCI) Clamp belts

● Shallow mode
In the Shallow mode, the customer put the banknotes to the shallow pocket, which has the bottom created by
Center Plate in the cash slot. When banknotes are put into the shallow pocket, the Clamp belts clamps the
banknotes and carry it into the Stack & Feed part of Cash Slot after taking the Center Plate away.
Center plate
● Continuous mode
In the Continuous mode, the customer slips the banknotes into a pair of Clamp Belts. When banknotes
approaches to the Clamp Belts, they are activated and pull in the banknotes to transport into the Stack & Feed
part of Cash Slot.
Clamp belts
Fig. 2.3.3 Cash in (Continuous mode)
● Deep mode
In the Deep mode, the customer put the banknotes into the deep pocket, which is originally prepared in the Stack
& Feed part of the Cash slot.
● Presenting mode
In the Presenting mode, the customer can take out the banknotes, which are protruded from the Cash Slot.
When banknotes to be taken out are inside the Stack & Feed part of Cash Slot, the shutter opens and the Clamp
Belts clamps and transport the banknotes until they are protruded from the Cash Slot.
● Deep mode
In the Deep mode, the customer put the banknotes into the deep pocket, to take out the dispensed / returned
banknotes.
If there are bad conditioned banknotes, which may not delivered properly with the Presenting mode, or if there is
an error during the deposit / dispense transaction, UR simply open the shutter in the same hardware configuration
as Deep mode, regardless with the selected mode by ATM-PC, in order that the customer can securely take out
the banknotes and empty the cash slot.
NOTE *1: Cash Slot Shutter (CSS) is not included to Upper unit and is separated module to be installed behind the ATM
fascia.

(4) CASSETTES
There are four types in the cassettes for UR, which are Cash Acceptance Box (AB), Cash Recycling Box (RB), Dual
Acceptance Box (DAB) and Dual Recycling Box (DRB).
The functions of the cash module, such as, Recycling, Non-recycling and Deposit only, are available by selecting the
combination of those types of Cassettes.
Cash Acceptance Box (AB) can handle deposit of multiple denomination / sizes of banknotes.
Cash Recycling Box (RB) can handle both deposit (cash in) and dispensing (cash out) of 1 denomination of the
banknote in the same size.
Dual Acceptance Box (DAB) has two compartments, which can handle deposit of multiple denomination / sizes of
banknotes individually.
Dual Recycling Box (DRB) has two compartments, which can handle both deposit (cash in) and dispensing (cash
out) of 1 denomination of the banknote in the same size individually.
By software parameter setting, Cash Recycling Box and each compartments of Dual Recycling Box also can be used
for deposit only or dispensing use only.
Table 2.4.5 shows the part number of Cassettes.
There are optional kits to upgrade elements or enhance the functions of UR as in Table 2.4.9.
Fig. 2.5.1 shows the Block diagram of the UR, and the Table 2.5.2 shows the functions of its components.
Table 2.5.1 shows functions of each component.

Outside surface of the cash slot shutter: Can be exposed to Direct sunlight
NOTES:
Separate condition have to be defined in the case of the cash slot shutter
is opened, since the effect of severe environmental conditions largely
depends on the opening time-length and position of ATM users, other
means of protection outside UR module, etc..
The Table 7.1.1 shows the rates of hardware reliability of UR. These rates are estimated under the premised conditions
defined in the Chapter 7.2 with proper maintenance defined in the Section 9.
The actual rates in field, especially both of Jam Rate and Reject Rate are much influenced by where to be used, amount
of transactions, media condition, environmental conditions, and the experience and the skill of user / bank staff / service
staff, and so on.
Therefore, the activities are required in order to keep and improve the reliability according to the result of managing and
investigating the field performance in collaboration both of the vender and customers of the terminal installing UR, and
Hitachi.
NOTES: In case if any of the expected security features are not in the
verifying note, as exampled in the following cases among
others, it is possible that such genuine note can be classified
as counterfeit:
z The note is soiled, worn or washed and neither magnetism nor
infrared cutting is recognized.
z Specifications of the security features or their tolerances are
changed after the release of validation firmware, and such
changes affects verification performances.
The Table 7.2.1 describes the Premised Conditions for indicative indications in chapter 7.1, Product Reliability.
