2. General information

2. 1. Applicable directives

2. 2. Classification of the machine


The machine complies with the requirements of directives 2006/42/UE “Machinery”, 2014/30/UE “Electrical
equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits” and 2014/35/UE “Electromagnetic compatibility”.

2. 3. Environment and conditions of use


This equipment is designed for use in workshops, in a non-explosive atmosphere.

When operating the machine, the following conditions must be observed:

 Ambient air temperature: +10 to +40 °C.


 Relative humidity:
• Up to 50% at 40°C.
• Up to 80% at 20°C.

The ambient air shall not contain abnormal quantities of dust, acids, gas or corrosive substances. Fumes due to
welding are considered to be normal.

Examples of abnormal conditions of use:


 Abnormal corrosive smoke.
 Vapour.
 Excessive oil vapour.
 Shaking and vibration.

Ensure that air can enter and leave when using the equipment.

3. Installation

3. 1. Handling

This equipment must be unpacked and handled with care. If a


component has been damaged in transit, state this on the shipping
note and immediately notify the carrier.

The machine is delivered in a packing case with protection, etc. This packaging is specific to the machine. The
original packaging must be kept for use each time the machine is transported in order to prevent damage.

When the machine is not used and removed from its support, it should be stored on a suitable support away
from any impacts (or in its packaging).

3. 2. Installing the bundle

The user is responsible for the installation and use of the arc
welding equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions. If electromagnetic interference is detected, it must
be the responsibility of the user of the arc welding equipment to
resolve matters, with technical assistance from the manufacturer
(extract of standard EN 60974-10 2008 – Annex A).

Before using the machine, check the bundle. Too sharp an angle
can pinch the coolant and gas hoses. Limit this angle to 90° for
optimum operation.

4. Use

4. 1. Precautions for use

To use a welding torch or perform maintenance, operators must


wear their protective equipment (gloves, boots, etc.).

Operators should pay particular attention to the temperature of


the material in contact with the high temperature zone.

Out welding operations, the electrodes represent a danger for


the operators, risk of injury with the tips.
During handling, maintenance operations or adjustment
operations, place the electrode covers on all the torches of the
installation. Remove these covers before welding operations and
keep them accessible

When not using the torch, it must be stored in the storage rack
provided for this purpose. It is important to keep the torch stored
to avoid any damaging shocks.

4. 2. Electrodes

Electrodes are fragile and must be handled carefully.


In order to obtain a good weld and avoid premature wear of the electrodes, it is essential that they are perfectly
clean. Avoid contact between the filler metal and the electrode otherwise the latter will deteriorate rapidly.

The electrode supplied by Polysoude is made of tungsten alloy with additional elements such as lanthane. It
produces easier ignition and greater arc stability.

To maintain a stable and concentrated welding arc, tungsten electrodes must have a conical end. The diameter of
the electrode, its grinding angle and the diameter of the flat tip depend on the intensity of the welding current.

Electrodes used for the same application must have a constant geometry in order to guarantee repeatability of
results. This is essential when using equipment with the AVC function.

The end of the electrode must always incorporate a flat tip. The shape of the end of the electrode is a determining
factor for arc ignition (this must be checked at regular intervals).

The diameter and the shape of the tip of the electrode are dependent on the intensity of the welding current.
Grinding must be carried out along the centreline of the electrode. The use of a bench grinder ensures that the
operation is straightforward, fast and to a high standard.
The length and the diameter of the electrode must be compatible with the type of gas lens and the thickness of
the tube. Each electrode can withstand a maximum current.

Electrodes must always be replaced preventively in order to


reduce weld defects. For certain heavy-duty applications, the
electrode must be replaced after every weld.
The current ranges (A) are given as a guide only for DCEN (direct
current electrode negative) use under Argon. To avoid damage
to the installation, these currents must be used in conjunction
with the duty cycles for the torch shown in the technical data
table.

4. 3. Mounting the V2 assembly

• Insert the electrode (1) into the chuck (2) with the electrode tip at the same end
as the slots in the chuck.
• Fit this assembly in the gas lens (3). The chuck and gas lens must be compatible
with the electrode diameter.
• Mount the gas lens unit on the WP27 torch (5), remembering to insert the seal
(4).
• Screw the CLS nozzle (6) onto the torch.
• Before fitting the V2 nozzle (7), make sure that the gas box O-ring is in place.
• Screw the V2 nozzle assembly (7) onto the WP27 torch.
• Connect the trailing gas supply (8) for the gas box to the bundle connection
plate.
• Connect the outward (9) and return (10) V2 nozzle coolant circuit to the bundle
connection plate.

4. 4. Changing the electrode

• Unscrew the knob (1) about a quarter of a turn.


• Pull the electrode (2) downwards.
• Insert a new electrode.
• Adjust electrode stickout to the desired length (SE).
• Lock the electrode by tightening the knob.

check for kinks, tears or bulges.

• Check that there is no seepage or noise; these are symptoms of
leakage and, therefore, damage to the internal lining.
• Check that the connectors and unions are tight.

5. 3. Maintenance recommendation

Polysoude recommends regular revision of the equipment by a Polysoude


technician or a Polysoude approved technician, once a year minimum or
every 2300 h* (depending nevertheless on the conditions of use).

During the guarantee period, the Polysoude contractual guarantee shall


not apply unless the equipment undergoes revision at least once a year
by a Polysoude technician
or a Polysoude approved technician.

6. End of service life – Recycling the machine

Our machines incorporate electrical and electronic components which must be recycled in accordance with
Directive 2002/96/EC. Any item of equipment which is declared obsolete or out of service must be sent to
approved recycling companies in order to reduce the amount of ultimate waste disposal. A number of solutions
may be deployed, including:

• Recycling
• Any other form of recovery (including energy recovery) of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipment).
