    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

    Unit 922E is damage or has a main pump leak which causes unit 922E to break down. After the overhoul was carried out,the parts
    that were damage were the shaft seals and bearings. As a result of this damage,the main pump leaked. Therefore,an analysis of the
    causes of damage to shaft seals and bearings is carried out to find out indications of damage and recomendations for repair to be
    made. The method used to analyze the problem uses the shaft seal Failur analysis scheme method. The result of the analysis show
    indications of damage to the mechanical seal occurring on the seal face,O-ring and shaft seal. Factors that cause mechanical seal
    damage are worn or moving bearing bearing shaft,then there is more friction between the seal and shaft,causing the seal to exceed
    its capability limit,the seal face and O-ring are damage,namely the seal face is destroyed and the O-ring loses its elasticity value and
    separated. The actions taken are to replace the seal shaft and O-ring so that the working life of the seal which should last a long
    time due to damage becomes only short. The cause of the coupling problem is contamination with hyd oil due to a front pump seal
    leak,so the coupling with a liquid contaminated dry structure eventually loses its ability limit.
