Questions:
1. Which city had the highest temperature?
-The city that had the highest temperature as of October 2020 was Manila.
2. What factor do you think is the cause of high temperature in that city?
-I believe that the factor causing the high temperature in Manila is the altitude.
Because according to the table given above, the altitude of Manila is 13.1
meters, making it the lowest altitude of all other cities. With its low altitude, this
city absorbs more heat energy from the sun than any of the other cities listed
above. Furthermore, the air is under more pressure at lower altitudes, causing it to
contract and heat up.
4. What factor do you think is the cause of low temperature in that city?
-I believe that just like Manila city, the factor causing the low temperature in
Denver is the altitude. Because according to the table given above, the altitude of
Denver is 1609.3 meters, making it the highest altitude of all other cities. With its
high altitude, this city absorbs less heat energy from the sun than any of the other
cities listed above. Furthermore, air at higher altitudes is under less pressure than
air at lower altitudes because of the lighter weight of the air above, so it expands
and cools off.
5. What factor do you think greatly. (Weather Atlas n.d) affects the climate of
Tokyo? Support your answer.
-I believe the factors that greatly affect the climate of Tokyo are its altitude,
latitude, and location near a body of water. Because according to the table given
above, the city of Tokyo has an altitude of 20.1 meters, and a lower altitude means
a higher temperature, but along with altitude is latitude. Because of Japan's
latitude, it receives just enough sunlight, and so despite having a lower altitude, it
is able to maintain a temperate climate. Furthermore, Japan's location near a body
of water made the climate moderate because bodies of water help distribute and
regulate the temperature. The closer a region is to a body of water, the more
moderate the climate is. This is also why Japan experiences four seasons.
1. What are those specific places/areas with Type I climate? Type II climate? Type
III? And Type IV? Name at least 5 for each type?
-Areas that are experiencing climate I are the western part of Luzon, Mindoro,
Negros, and Palawan. Areas that are experiencing climate II are Catanduanes,
Sorsogon, the eastern part of Albay, the eastern and northern parts of Camarines
Norte and Sur, the eastern part of Samar, and large portions of eastern Mindanao.
Areas that are experiencing climate III are the western part of Cagayan, Isabela,
parts of northern Mindanao, and most of eastern Palawan. And lastly, areas that are
experiencing climate IV are Batanes, Northeastern Luzon, Southwest Camarines
Norte, West of Camarines Sur, Albay, Northern Cebu, Bohol, and most of Central,
Eastern, and Southern Mindanao.
3. Which factor affects each of the four types of climate based on rainfall
distribution in the Philippines?
-The factor that I believe affects each of the four types of climate based on the
rainfall distribution in the Philippines is the topography. Topography describes the
physical or natural features of an area of land, which is a factor influencing the
wind patterns and weather patterns, including the precipitation in certain places.
4. How do mountain ranges and coastal areas affect the pattern of rainfall
distribution in some areas of the Philippines?
-Mountain ranges and coastal areas affect the pattern of rainfall distribution
because, as what I've stated in question number 3, topography influences wind
patterns and weather patterns, and mountain ranges and coastal areas are just two
of those. Because mountain ranges block the wind, it is forced to move upward.
This causes water vapor to condense and form clouds, which then lead to
precipitation. But, also, because mountain ranges block winds, this results in the
other side of the mountain warming and drying up. Because as the wind moves it
encounters mountain ranges, some of the wind is blocked and some is able to pass
through the mountain, which then, as it moves, also absorbs heat. This explains
why some parts of the Philippines experience precipitation and some do not. For
coastal areas, they are responsible for the formation of most typhoons because of
how molecules in bodies of water are heated and can easily evaporate. The formed
typhoons are then carried by prevailing winds, and in our country they are named
hanging Amihan and hanging Habagat. This explains why areas of Catanduanes,
Sorsogon, the eastern part of Albay, the eastern and northern parts of Camarines
Norte and Sur, the eastern part of Samar, and large portions of eastern Mindanao,
Luzon, Mindoro, Negros, and Palawan are pronounced to experience rainfall.
