Assignment task
This assignment involves preparing a written essay on your understanding of organisational behaviour.
Use theories, concepts and frameworks to support your argument. You are required to use examples from
tourism sector where necessary to demonstrate clear understanding of theories, concepts and frameworks.
This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the
following module learning outcomes:
LO 2 Show the ability to apply concepts and frameworks from organisational behaviour to different types of
businesses.
LO 3 Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how organisational theories, concepts and evidence
can explain the way that people behave and interact at work at individual, group and organisational levels.
LO 4 Demonstrate appropriate academic writing skills, referencing and good academic practice.
Task requirements
OVERVIEW
This assignment will encourage the students to apply the learning from the module to a topic and will be submitted
in form of an essay.
The submission of a written essay that discusses variety of topics using a wide range of research materials (4,000
words). Throughout the module we will be examining a variety of concepts of management, work and organisation
issues through the use of a variety of research materials.
1. Examine the changing management practices from the early 20th century.
2. Discuss the current theories, concepts, and evidence in organisational behaviour.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of personality, individual differences and the relevance of different
motivation theories and their application.
4. Show understanding of the influences of organisational culture and structure.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of managing groups and teams, workforce diversity and globalisation.
6. Examine the concept of learning organisations.
7. You should apply examples of industry practice from different organisations.
You must:
Give the full CCCU Harvard reference within the reference page for each item used, and the correct CCCU
Harvard ‘shortened’ reference within the essay.
Include both direct and indirect citations from a wide variety of sources. Include a minimum of 30
references.
Make use of the relevant core texts, additional resources provided in Moodle and research items from within
the module.
Your cover page would be the first page of your Essay. Include student-ID number, module name, tutor
name, academic year/group name.
The guidance below sets out the requirements of the task and a suggested structure for the essay.
Introduction (200 words) - A suggested format would be to create an introduction which defines organisation,
organisational behaviour and outline the aim of the essay which describes what you will cover in the rest of the essay.
The areas of discussion for the rest of the essay include a discussion of the concepts of management, work and
organisation and the relationship between management practices and experiences of organisational life and
conclusion. See suggestions below:
The first section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) - should examine changing management practices from the
early 20th century.
The second section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) - should discuss current theories, concepts and evidence in
organisational behaviour.
The third section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) should describe personality, individual differences and the
relevance of different motivation theories and their application.
The fourth section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) should examine the influences of organisational culture and
structure.
The fifth section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) should analyse the concept of managing groups and teams;
workforce diversity and globalisation.
The sixth section (300 x 2 paragraphs = 600 words) should discuss concept of learning organisations.
Conclusion (200 words) - Summarise your findings reiterating the key points and arguments.
You must reference all information used in the essay, using the Harvard Referencing Guide.
Notes:
1. The task requirement is an essay not a report or reflective journal. You must therefore ensure that your
structure, outline, content, style and presentation accord with academic writing conventions for an essay.
2. Ensure appropriate formatting. For example, you should use 12-point font size, 1.5 line spacing and
distribute your text evenly between margins.
3. You must use the correct Canterbury Harvard Referencing conventions* for your in-text citations and
reference list
4. You must use and reference at least four of the core texts and academic resource materials provided in
Moodle.
5. You must use a minimum of 30 sources including textbooks, journals and other reliable and credible
published and web sources.
6. Do not use Wikipedia or unverifiable blogs
7. Include your student ID number, module name, tutor name, academic year/group bubble in your cover page
which should be the first page of your essay

Your work will be assessed on the extent to which it demonstrates your achievement of the stated learning
outcomes for this assignment (see above) and against other key criteria, as defined in the University’s institutional
grading descriptors. If it is appropriate to the format of your assignment and your subject area, a proportion of your
marks will also depend upon your use of academic referencing conventions.
This assignment will be marked according to the grading descriptors for Level 4
Submission details
This assignment should be submitted electronically via Moodle (module tutors will discuss this process with
you during class time).
Please ensure that your work has been saved in an appropriate file format (Microsoft Word, Excel
or PowerPoint, or PDF are the most widely used; Google Docs is also accepted). Your file must
also contain at least 20 words of text, consist of fewer than 400 pages and be less than 40MB in
size.
You can submit your work as many times as you like before the submission date. If you do submit
your work more than once, your earlier submission will be replaced by the most recent version.
Once you have submitted your work, you will receive a digital receipt as proof of submission, which
will be sent to your forwarded e-mail address (provided you have set this up). Please keep this
receipt for future reference, along with the original electronic copy of your assignment
You are reminded of the University’s regulations on academic misconduct, which can be viewed on the
University website: Academic Misconduct Policy. In submitting your assignment, you are acknowledging that
you have read and understood these regulations.
This assignment should be submitted to Moodle before 2pm on Week Commencing, 3rd March, 2023.
You should submit all work for summative assessments by the above deadline. Work submitted up to three working
days after the deadline will be accepted and marked, but the mark will be capped at the pass mark (40%) unless
there is a valid reason for the late submission (i.e. having been granted an extension to the deadline or a deferral
under the terms of the Extenuating Circumstances Policy).
Work submitted more than three working days after the deadline without a valid reason will not be accepted and
will be recorded as 0% RN (refer, no work submitted).
Feedback and marks for this assignment will be available in three weeks from the deadline.
