I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
 the periodic table of elements as an organizing tool to determine the
chemical properties of elements

B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to…

 identify the contributions of the different scientists in the
development of the periodic table;
 name the different groups in a periodic table
C. Learning Competencies/
Objectives
Write the LC code for At the end of the activity, the learners will be able to…

IV. PROCEDURES
Reviewing the previous ELICIT
lesson or presenting the new 1. Greetings
lesson
“Good morning class” How are you feeling this afternoon?

“Okay, but before anything else let us pray first.”

2. Prayer

“DEAR LORD,
We offer this day all we do, think and say. Give life to
our mind to learn lesson of all kind. Help us to be obedient,
truthful and loving to all. Amen.”

“You may now be seated.”

3. Checking of Attendance

“Is there any absent?”

“There’s none! Very good.”

4. Classroom Management

“Now before we start, I just want to remind everybody of our

classroom rules. What are those”
1. Be prepared
2. Be positive
3. Be Productive
4. Be respectful to your classmates and teacher
5. Be Participative
“Is that clear?”
“Ok, Good!”

Recall
 Ask the learners if they can still recall the previous lesson.

“Now for our new topic, I want to begin our lesson with a game
called “4 pics, 1 word”, are you familiar with this game?”
“Wow, very nice. I know some of you have installed this kind of
game also on your mobile phones before.”
“So I am going to show you 4 pictures for each word and I want
you to guess the missing letters in order to formulate the
hidden word.”
“Is that clear?”
“Ok, Game!”
*Show the pictures and let them guess what the hidden word is.

Expected Answers:
1. ELEMENT
2. FAMILY
3. METAL
4. PERIOD
5. GROUP

“Very good! You got all the correct answer.”

Show a picture of an empty Periodic Table.
“Now by looking at this picture what do you think is this?”

“Yes, this is a Periodic Table

of Element and those words that we have formulated from our
4pics 1 word game were used and can be found in our PERIODIC
TABLE OF ELEMENTS.
B. Establishing a purpose ENGAGE
for the lesson  Introduce that the lesson is about the
PERIODIC TABLE OF ELEMENTS

Present a Periodic Table of Elements Chart

“So, this is the Periodic Table of Elements. A periodic table
is a graphical layout of the chemical elements organized into
rows and columns according to their basic characteristics and
today we are going to discuss who are the proponents on the
development of the periodic table, the arrangement of elements
and we are also going to name the different groups of the
periodic table.”

C. Presenting “But before that let us have an activity first entitled

Examples/instances of the “SORT ME OUT (Dingdong Edition) and you are task to sort the
new lesson
contents of the “Dingdong” according to their similarities.”
“I’ll give you 1 minute to finish the task.”
“Your timer starts now!”
---TIME IS UP---
“Is everybody done?”

After the task was completed.

“After you are done with the activity can you tell me, what are
the contents of the Dingdong?”
“Yes there are peanuts, corn bits, green peas and cornicks ”
“So, what made you decide to group them together?”
“Okay, you grouped them together because they are similar.”
“So, just like our Table of Elements there were also several
scientists who attempted to organize it based on their
similarities.”

D. Discussing new concepts EXPLORE

and practicing new skills “So, to help us understand on how the periodic table was
organized and who were the proponents on the development of the
periodic table let us watch this video presentation.”
 Present a video

“Now, after that you have watched the video, I want you to
group yourselves into 4 for our next activity and each group
will be given 1 scientist and you are going to identify the
contribution of that scientist on the development of the
periodic table.”
Group 1 will be Johann Dobereiner
Group 2 will be John Newlands
Group 3 will be Dmitri Mendeleev
Group 4 will be Henrey Moseley
“I will be giving you 5 minutes to complete your task and after
that each group will report their answers in front.”
“Your time start now.”
--TIME IS UP—
“Group 1 will be the first to report then Group 2 and so on.”
 Group Reporting

“Thank you so much everyone.”

E. Developing mastery EXPLAIN

(Leads to formative “So now, let’s proceed to our discussion. So I am to going to
assessment 3)
further explain our lesson this afternoon. So, we have here the 4
scientists that have contributed to the development of the
Periodic Table.”

“They are Dobereiner, Newlands, Mendeleev and Moseley.”

“So, who are

the proponents
again?”
“Is that clear? Do you have any questions?”
“Okay, so now let’s proceed to the arrangement of elements.”

 Element

F. Finding practical ELABORATE

application of concepts and “What do you think is the importance of the periodic table?
skills in daily living

“Periodic table is important to quickly refer to information

about an element, like atomic mass and chemical symbol.”

“What is your take out from today’s lesson?”

G. Making Generalizations “What is the importance of the periodic table of elements to
and abstractions about the you as students?
lesson

“Periodic Table of Elements is important for students because

it helps to predict the types of chemical reactions that a
particular element likely to participate in.”

“Okay, thank you.”

H. Evaluating Learning EVALUATE
“At this point I just want to check if you have mastered the
concepts on our lesson this afternoon. I want you to get a ¼
sheet of paper and answer the following questions.”
1. What are the 3 classifications of elements?
2. Elements on the same row are called? _____________
3. Elements on the same column are called? _____________
4. Which element is found in period 6, group 14? __________
5. In which period and group is Aluminum (Al) is located?
___________
6. In which period and group is Platinum (Pt) is located?
__________
7. Enumerate the 4 scientists who have contributed on the
development of the periodic table.

I. Additional Activities for EXTEND

remediation Assignment:
 Memorize one element in the periodic table including their name,
symbol, atomic number and atomic mass.

“Each one will memorize one element in front of the class on

our next meeting.”
“Do you have any clarifications?”
“There’s none are you sure?”
“Okay, so that would be all for today class. Goodbye.”
