DAILY LESSON PLAN IN

EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE

SCHOOL: OC NIGHT HS QUARTER: FIRST QUARTER

TEACHER: REYBETH M. MARILLA SUBJECT: EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE
DATE: SEPTEMBER 15-16, 2022 TIME: 4:30-5:30 PM, 5:30-6:30,
6:45-7:45 PM
DAY: THURSDAY & FRIDAY SECTION: 11- MATAPAT, MAGALANG
& MASIPAG

I. Objective
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:

1. the three main categories of rocks

3. 2. the origin and environment of formation of

common minerals and rocks

B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to

Conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic/

hydro meteorological hazards that your community
may experience.

C. Learning Competencies  Identify common rock-forming minerals using their

physical and chemical properties (S11/12ES -Ia-9)

II. Content Earth Materials And Processes

III. Learning Resources
A. References
1. CG Self-Learning Module or SLM
2. LM Earth & Life Science - Alternative
Delivery Mode
First Quarter – Module 1, Lesson 3
B. Other Resources
IV. Instructional Materials Television, Laptops, Tarpapel, Printed Worksheets,
Blackboard & Chalk
V. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activity a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Check of Attendance
d. Classroom Management
e. Updates/Announcements on upcoming/recent
activities
f. Mind Exercise
B. Preparation A. Review previous lesson
Recall the previous discussion about the Earth
four Subsystem.

B. Group Activity
Divide the class into groups and let the students
watch a video presentation. Each group will be
asked to identify the different common rock-
forming mineral properties described in the
video. After the given time, every group will
discuss/share their output in the class.

Relevant questions will be asked.

How did you find the activity?

What relevant information you learned from

sharing?
A. Development Discussion
Activity
A lot of important raw materials are found in the
environment. Some of which are mineral-based. A
mineral is defined as a naturally occurring, usually
inorganic solid with distinct chemical composition
and an orderly crystalline structure. In order to test
whether a sample of matter is a mineral, scientists
need to assess the sample according to the
aforementioned characteristics. A silicate mineral
contains silicon and oxygen and may consist of a
metal. A non-silicate mineral is one that does not
contain silicon and oxygen. Examples of which are
gypsum, galena, and corundum.

Every mineral is recognized according to its properties

that exist as a result of its chemical composition.
Such properties may be identified subjectively or
objectively

 Solicit from learners some possible issues or

concept that are confusing to them.
B. Enrichment Fill out the graphic organizer applying important
Activity
concepts about minerals and its properties.

(see attached Graphic Organizer)

C. Application Answer Activity 9: Q and A Portion of Earth & Life,

First Quarter – Module 1, Lesson 3

(see attached copy)

D. Assessment Identify the minerals which are being described based

on the given physical and chemical properties

1. Pink or white, wavy lines, right angles, 2

cleavage planes
2. Black and splintery, 2 cleavage, barely scratches
glass
3. Glassy, used to make glass, no cleavage planes
4. Olive green, sugary, component of peridotite
(mantle)
5. Talcum powder, scratch with fingernails, too
small crystals
6. Salty taste, perfect cubic cleavage, NaCl
7. Many colors, doesn’t scratch glass, 4 cleavage
planes, hydrofluoric acid
8. Scratch with fingernail, Pencil “lead”, slippery
9. Yellow streak, used to make sulfuric acid,
cluster of brittle crystals
10. Gray streak, iron oxide, magnetic, high
specific gravity

E. Assignment Think Beyond the Pages

1. An unknown mineral possesses a black streak and

a density of 18 g/cm3 . Based on these data, can you
tell what mineral is it? Do you think it is metallic or
nonmetallic?
