INTRODUCTION
The capstone project, entitled “Android-Based Attendance Tracker using QR code with
push notification to Parents” is purposely designed to be used by the educational
institution. The attendance system will only require the students to scan the QR codes
to record their attendance during arrival in school. The said project also has an Email
feature that is used to notify the parents of the students about their attendance.
Checking student’s attendance is an essential day-to-day activity in school. It is done to
ensure that students are always present and attend classes. Student’s attendance is
also critical in tracking and monitoring students in school. Conventionally, student’s
attendance is checked and recorded manually. Some of the most common manual
methods of attendance are roll calling, use of class records, and letting students sign an
attendance sheet. The mentioned methods are prone to human errors and are not
highly accurate and reliable. The manual method is not ideal for it requires a lot of time
and effort from both the students and the instructors. There are also loads of paperwork
and it is very time-consuming.

RATIONALE
Taking student’s attendance by instructors during each class is a time-consuming
process especially when classes are big. Some faculty policies require this task to be
performed by the instructor in each lecture. In other words, out of the total hours that are
assigned to a given course, which is typically forty-five hours per semester, up to eight
hours may be lost to perform this process that usually takes around ten minutes per
lecture.
Recording absence at a department having a large number of students in a classroom
is a difficult task. Moreover, the process takes much time, and many efforts are spent by
the professor of the department to complete the attendance for each student.

Attendance plays an important part in education – students who attend classes regularly
have a higher chance of succeeding in school and becoming a valued member of the
school community. This process plays an important part in increasing the student
attendance rate of your school – it gives students a sense of responsibility that
encourages them to attend classes and reduces absences.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Regular absenteeism is the most common problems associated with the students
belongs to low-income family. Gender and ethnic origin do not seem to play a role. In
school, the students tend to have the highest rates of absenteeism

misperception although school staff or specifically the educators itself have instructed to
impost school attendance policies and procedures and those personnel with tasked
responsibility for maintaining attendance records are supervised.

OBJECTIVES
The purpose of our proposed work is to minimize the work load of the faculty while
taking attendance and to prevent fake
attendance. The main objective is to develop an android application for taking
attendance in colleges.
The main objectives of this proposed work are explained below.
A. To develop a QR code-based attendance system with SMS Notification
B. To prevent fake attendance.
C. To ease up the recording of attendance just by scanning the QR code.
D. To save lecture time.
E. Increase the speed at which attendance can be scanned.
F. Reduce hardware requirement.
G. Safe and secured personal information system.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The proposed system will manage the process of attendance that will be save in a
specific database. Once the student scans the qr code, it will directly be saved in the
database and generate a message that will be sent to their parents, it contains when
their child arrives in school. This system will use QR code scanner and generator to
monitor and register the student’s attendance. The system only covers the monitoring of
attendance of the students. This is not capable of monitoring the attendance regarding
their class schedule and the attendance of the faculties in school.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Educational Institutions – The success of the project will benefit the school by have a
systematic method of recording the attendance of students. The system will help them
gather accurate and reliable records of attendance.
School Faculty – The system can help them have an accurate list of students who
regularly attend school. They can easily monitor their student’s presence.
Students – They can record their attendance easily and conveniently. The system will
ensure that their attendance is accurately recorded.
Parents – The system can help them monitor their student’s arrival in school.
