The last requirement of the Capstone Project prior to your presentation is to reflect on the

process by writing a final journal reflection on your process and final product addressing the
following questions. You will need to answer ALL required questions WITH DETAILED
RESPONSES.

Final Capstone Reflection Journal Entry

The Capstone is a unique and demanding challenge. In completing it, what did you learn
about your subject? Your skill set? Yourself?
I have learned so much new information and gained new skills while working on my Capstone.
Not only did I increase my understanding and knowledge regarding urban planning practices
both locally and around the world, I have learned how to video edit using Final Cut Pro.
How is your project relevant to you, the school or the community-at-large?
My project is related to my possible career path working in the urban planning sector and has
definitely taught me more about this. It can also be used to educate and inform opinions or
establish new ideas to improve our society through urban planning.
What impact if any did your Capstone project have?
It allowed me to learn about something that I am passionate about in a fun and creative way. It
really showed me that I actually enjoy video editing and can keep this in mind when
contemplating different career options.
Thinking about the whole process and your finished product, what are you most proud
of?
I am proud of my ability to overcome the challenges I faced with getting myself to work on this
challenging and time consuming project. I felt overwhelmed at first by how complicated video
editing seemed and honestly regretted my choice of pursuing a medium to create this project
that is so new to me. However, I quickly started to enjoy the process once I started and truly
looked forward to working on this.
What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the problem?
In addition to the video editing difficulties mentioned previously, I also had to overcome some
mental obstacles that hindered my productivity and motivation to complete this project. I realized
I had to severely change my mindset and attitude in order to successfully and efficiently
complete this project. While I am not proud that this project was not completed on time, I am
nevertheless proud of the work and dedication I put into these videos.
What is one thing about your finished project you wish you could change? Why?
I would probably try to establish a more cohesive and consistent visual theme throughout my
videos, but since I was just learning how to video edit, my skill set and knowledge improved with
each video that I made so I wanted to incorporate new techniques and try out different options.
This would also have saved time because I would not need to spend as much time exploring
and could just use the same styles as before.
What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their Capstone Project
next year?
I would tell them that the planning done throughout the beginning of the project is so important
and will ensure a relatively seamless and enjoyable experience down the road when putting the
project together as many thoughts and ideas will already be organized.
What source from your research helped you the most? (or least?).
The source that focused on the benefits of cycling and walkability, specifically the Dutch
approach to these things, provided me with the most insight and relevant information for the
main points I wanted to cover.
What is one thing about your approach to your project that you wish you could change?
Why?
My motivation and mindset were definitely the things that I wish I could have changed the most
looking back. I really enjoyed the creative process of making the videos and wish that I could
have been able to allow myself to concentrate better and work more productively yet calmly.
