ACTIVITY 2

1. What were the problems of the society that science and technology wants to address?
 Individuals can spend more time relaxing, working in less stressful surroundings, living longer
and healthier lives, trying new things, and connecting with people they might not have met
otherwise. The basic belief is that better life quality reflects better performance in terms of
personal satisfaction and well-being. Science and technology have been utilized to address
societal issues like disease, starvation, and war. Society has changed significantly with the
development of technology. The use of current technology has allowed individuals to become
prosperous, but at the expense of many of the most common challenges that our ancestors
faced. It is important to understand the problems we are attempting to solve as well as the
advantages and disadvantages associated with those solutions, given the growing number of
challenges and concerns that technology is addressing.
2. What is the significance of these advancements in science and technology?
 Every advancement has impacted generation after generation. It brought us something new and
useful, but it also brought us challenges to face.
3. What are the negative impacts of these advancements in science and technology in the society?
 Some technological developments had a significant impact on our environment, which finally
had the opposite effect of what the developments were originally intended to achieve. The
opposite effect I'm referring to is that while these technological advancements were beneficial
and provided many wonderful benefits to people in the past, they now cause disease and other
environmental problems. For instance, electronic devices and gadgets have an impact on our
health. Our rivers and other bodies of water suffer degradation from the plastic and chemical
waste of industrial operations. Additionally, this pollutes our environment and harms us.
4. If you are given a chance to change a certain invention, what will be your suggestion or other
idea?
 In my opinion, all inventions—past, present, and future—must have a single, unwavering
purpose: to make humanity the best it can be while causing the least amount of harm—to
wildlife, the environment, or people—because everything is interconnected and if one is
harmed, then the inventions fail to fulfill their sole purpose—that is, to benefit humanity and
cause no harm to the other living things.
ACTIVITY 3

1. The COVID-19 pandemic has displayed the interconnection of society around the world. This
coronavirus is considered the greatest challenge of science and technology after world war II.
What do you think is the effect of COVID-19 on the environment, now and in the future? What is
society's role in helping the science and development research sector prevent the spread of the
virus? What is the role of science and technology to attain social protection and sustainable
economy while providing solutions for COVID-19, such as making vaccines and medicines?
 I am not certain how COVID-19 will affect the environment, but based on my research, COVID-19
has affected our daily lives in an unprecedented range of ways, from physical distancing to travel
bans. But the pandemic is also influencing our planet. Air pollution levels have dropped
significantly since measures such as quarantines and shutdowns were put in place to contain
COVID-19. While shutdowns continue, levels of harmful have plummeted. But environmental
benefits will only be temporary unless we implement long-term measures to cut emissions. The
COVID-19 virus will not be eliminated as years go by; people will live with it, but scientists have
been doing their best to create a vaccine aiming to reduce the number of people dying from the
virus. In order to achieve a sustainable society and prevent environmental abuse or damage
while producing vaccines and other medications, science and technology must play the role of
the wise manager, maximizing the use of resources to our benefit. Furthermore, in order to stop
the virus from spreading, we must always maintain a safe distance between one another,
frequently wash our hands, sanitize everything, and wear facemasks at all times.
2. What are the impacts of science and technology in society in terms of economy, leisure,
employment, or unemployment? What do you think are the responsibilities of science and
technology in society. In your own opinion, does public trust in science and technology matter
during times of pandemic? Why?
 Science and technology enable more effective manufacturing of goods and services, provide us
with powerful tools for work, and make our jobs easier, thereby reducing the work of workers.
However, in order for workers to be able to perform these tasks, they must receive training for
newly created jobs upon employment. In addition to creating new jobs, science and technology
have allowed us to work remotely in these pandemic times. I believe that science and
technology are responsible for advancing our civilization by, among other things, exploring the
uncharted, acquiring new knowledge, and creating new innovations for people to use.
