Question:
Answer:
Behavior:
A response shown by an organism in response to some stimuli is called its behavior.
Nervous System:
Nervous system plays important role in coordinating different activities within an organism.
Neurons are the structural and functional units of nervous system. Neuron has three types
namely, sensory neuron, motor neuron and interneuron. Its main parts are axon, cell body and
dendrites.
The brain is a complicated organ its function and structure both makes it the main center for
nervous and sensory systems. All of them are important in shaping the behavior. Like brain
nervous system plays important role in shaping behavior. Nervous system controls all individual
movements whether they are voluntary or involuntary. It controls all body actions like
laughing, reading, running and reacting to pain etc. Nervous system links both the brain and
spinal cord to whole body.
Nervous system contains somatic nervous system which is the part of peripheral nervous
system. The autonomic nervous system comprised of sympathetic and parasympathetic
nervous system. Both of these systems control different behaviors like rigorous activities are
controlled by sympathetic nervous system and actions like food digestion control by the
parasympathetic system. Like temperature regulation is done by sympathetic system. In order
to keep body cool or warm there is need of behavior that move in correct environment. S
Example:
Feeding behavior of blowflies:
Feeding behavior in blowflies controlled b nervous system. Blowflies have specific sensory
receptors present in their feet. When flies move around they capture some substances. The
sensory receptors present in then detect certain sugars present. Then these receptors send
information to the nervous system. The nervous system processes this information. As a result
the blowfly shows response by extending their proboscis. This also activates the oral taste
receptors. As a result the fly starts feeding.
There are some feedback mechanisms that tend to stop the feeding in flies. The foregut in
blowflies sells after feeding has been done. This the receptors present in the foregut send
messages to the brain where neurons control the feeding response.Moths also show this type
of behavior to avoid their predators.
