ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAM
ANNUAL ACCOPLISHMENT REPORT

I. INTRODUCTION
The Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) issued DECS Order No.
80, s. 1998 entitled Adopt-A-School Program Implementing Rules and Regulations
(IRR). These rules shall be known as Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR)
otherwise known as An Act Establishing an Adopt-A-School Program and Providing
Incentives Therefor and For Other Purposes. On January 18, 2013, the Department of
Education issued a DepEd Order No. 02, s. 2013 entitled Revised Implementing Rules
and Regulations of Republic Act (RA) No. 8525 Otherwise Known as Adopt-A-School
Program Act.

Adopt-A-School Program is an innovative pro-poor government program that gives


private institutions and individuals the opportunity to become partners in education by
providing assistance in the upgrading and modernization of public schools. RA 8525
established the ASP which allows private entities to assist public schools, whether
elementary, secondary, or tertiary.

Implemented based on the principles of volunteerism and multiple partnerships,


the Adopt-A-School Program (ASP) of the Department of Education (DepEd) gives the
private sector an opportunity to become dynamic and strong partners towards the noble
goal of educating all Filipinos.

Public schools need the support of diverse partners in fulfilling the basic education
of the children, hence, school partnership focal persons are profoundly encourage to
established a lasting and gratifying partnership with various school stakeholders. It is
essential to revisit and strengthened Republic Act 8525 in order to build and sustain a

mutual connection between DepEd and partners, by providing a venue for the strong
and dynamic private sectors to participate in nation-building through investments in the
education of Filipino children. The Adopt-A-School Program, which started in 1998, was
created to help generate investments and support to education outside the mainstream
funding and the national budget.
