Directions: Carefully read the following questions. Choose the letter of the best
answer and write it on your notebook.
3. The connection to the network is made via any one of the following
except:
A. ATM B. USB C. WI-FI D. Ethernet
LESSON
Ethernet NIC
a cable slot in which one end of the ethernet cable is plugged into the slots of the
machine and the other end of the cable is plugged into the modem; similarly, different
devices are connected to form a communication setup between them. Ethernet is
made up of four standards:
Wireless network NIC cards have a small antenna built into them, and
communication between devices is set up wirelessly through the router and various
network protocols. Fiber data digital interface FDDI is one example of a wireless
network NIC card. When data must be transmitted over long distances, a fiber data
digital interface FDDI concept is used, which converts data into digital pulses and
communicates via optical fiber. FDDI is a ring-type architecture with a speed of
100mbps, which allows for long-distance transmission and retransmission.
The most common reason for configuring your network card is to link your computer
to your network for web surfing, online shopping, connecting with other computers,
and so on.
Before you can configure the network card's settings, you must first ensure
that its driver is installed. Your network card will not function until the driver is
installed.
When you first connect the network card to the device and boot it up, the system will
usually detect new hardware and mount it automatically. If it does not function, you
can complete the driver installation by using the driver installation CD or the driver
downloaded from the vendor's website.
3) The Ethernet window will open, and you should be able to determine
whether the network card is linked to the network. To check the network card
configuration, click on Change Adapter Options.

4) Make a note of the following things in the network card Properties and
activate them as needed:

Your machine should now be wired to your home network. To test, try
ping another computer's or router's IP address and accessing other websites. The
command will be >PING 127.0.0.1 and then press enter.

The Benefits
The following are the benefits of using a Network Interface Card:
• The Internet's transmission speed is usually measured in gigabytes.
• Link that is extremely dependable
• Many peripheral devices can be linked using several NIC card ports.
• Bulk data can be distributed to many users.
The disadvantages
The following are the drawbacks of Network Interface Card:
• Inconvenient in the case of wired cable NICs because they are not
compact like wireless routers.
• The configuration should be appropriate for improved communication.
• The data is not stable.
ACTIVITIES
Advantages Disadvantages
This module talked about network interface card types and configuration.
Specifically, it discussed A network interface card (NIC) is a hardware component in
which network controllers are integrated on a circuit board and communicate using
the standard OSI model of seven layers. It also serves as a trans-receiver, allowing it
to send and receive data when interacting with other devices.
In addition, assume we want to communicate with another computer,
say a client and a server, and that communication takes place by first sending signals
to the physical layer and then transmitting data packets to the network layer, which
is an interface at TCP/IP.
Now, as learners, aside from the several points mentioned above. You can use
the blank spaces provided in the next page to answer and react to the following cases
or scenarios:
• Would you be able to make use of this knowledge obtained in this module? In
what scenario would it be?
