NATIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION

LADIES DRESS MAKING (Fashion Technology

Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education and VEDC for Business and
Tourism agreed to choose Ladies Dress Making/ Fashion Technology as a skill to
be competed in LKS.

The winner will further participate in International level. This LKS refers to World
Skills Competition test project.

This competition focuses on skills and ability of participants in processing of any

fashion product making. There will be no test on theoretical knowledge neither
written nor interview.

This Test Project will evaluate the Competitor while carrying out the following tasks:
Techniques in designing, draping design on mannequin, pattern in drafting
technique, cutting, sewing/assembling, fusing and pressing.

The Competitor has to:

 Design collection set of garments and create technical drawings
 Drape fabric on mannequin follow to the specific design on new trend
magazine.
 Construct bustier following to the provided pattern.
 Pattern making use drafting technique for bustier
 Mark, measure and cut
 Use various industrial machines efficiently
 Finish some parts of the garment with hand sewing
 Doing pattern alteration
 Pressing and finishing

This test project is made of 4 difference modules total 18 hours in 3 (three)

working days :

Group 1 project will consist of :

Module 1: Design (1 Hour )
Module 2 : Pattern Realization (1 Hour)
Module 3 : Dress (8 Hours)
Module 4 : Jacket (8 Hours)

Description of Project and Task Each Module :

Module 1 : Design Illustration (Objective and Subjective Marking)

Maximum working hours for this module is 1 Hour

Competitors will be required to create production/trade/flat sketches of garments in

colours ink front and back to be presented in A3 size.

They have to illustrate the design for module 3 (dress) which is their own creation of
the dress as well as a random swatch of fabric. They will be required to sketch

garments according to the properties of the fabric as well as target market. A

cocktail concept to be required theme is “Contemporer festival dress and jacket”.

Competitor will Showing all the material which use in module 3- 4, all the design
must be submitted after allocation time is over finished or not finished.

Design of Embellishments is free design (with item on the mistery box).

The Design will be evaluation on the following criteria

1. Drawing Technique
2. Detail Information on every design
3. Design Suitability all elements on the final design
4. Quality of design drawing
5. According to given Theme “Contemporer festival dress and jacket”

Module 2: Pattern Realization (Objective and Subjective Marking)

Maximum working hours for this module is 1(One) Hours

Competitor will make a pattern which will made for dress on Module 3, and all
competitor will received 3 pcs blank paper pattern.Measurement will follow
according to the dummy size specification based on size M mannequin.( Basic
standard spesication of S size : Bust = 85 Cm, Waist = 63 Cm, Hip =87 Cm)

Pattern will evaluated on the following criteria

 Quality of drawing technic

 Quality of pattern (neatly and clean presentation)
 Clear detail information of all information related to the cutting instruction,
such as: name of every block part, size, numbering, cut pieces
 All the adjancted pattern must be match
 All the block which use all present

Module 3: Dress Construction (Objective and Subjective Marking)

Maximum working hours for this module is 8 Hours

Specificification of Dress
Competitor will duplicate a dress style
with combining drape and drafting
system as close as the picture,
according to the fabric which provided
with a 2 (two) big pocket and
combining with a fabric weaving pattern

Basic standard spesication of S size

Bust 85 Cm
Waist 63 Cm
Hip 87 Cm

Note : This dress must be fitted to the

above mannequin standard
measurement. Will use for fashion show
if there is a slot time on closing
ceremony

Dress will be evaluated on the following criteria

 Measurements
 Seams and matching of junctions
 Execution of construction
 Quality of construction
 Overall appearance (Drape shape of the garment)

Module 4: Jacket Construction (Blind Marking : Objective and Subjective

Marking)
Maximum working hours for this module is 8 Hours

The jacket must co-ordinate with the dress and must have:
A full lining
Buff Sleeves
With a princes line
With a pleated variation stand collar
With back variation with lace on the back bottom
1 Button closure with rope button (shanghai butt
No raw edges allowed

Competitors will receive a set of jacket blocks – front, back and sleeve. Competitor
will do a pattern layout (please dont cut main material before marking by judge
group). All pattern without seam allowance

Competitors will then construct the jacket.

WORKING TIME

The total working period to complete the task is 18 hour within 3 days. The daily
working time is counted by timer.

GENERAL INSTRUCTION FOR COMPETITOR :

 After Finished Everyday all competitor must clean up working area for the
next day competition.
 Group Which doing Module 4 must ask judge for cutting layout marking
before cut the fabric.
 Don’t waist the time.
