Compounds and Their Uses!

1 Organic Compounds
From the previous module, you learned about the chemical properties of
organic compounds that made them distinct from other compounds especially
inorganic compounds. This lesson will introduce to you some common organic
compounds and their uses.

Organic compounds are group of compounds that contain the element carbon.
Organic compounds contain carbon and hydrogen combined with other elements
namely oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorous, sulfur and halogens (fluorine, chlorine,
bromine, and iodine) ethyl alcohol, acetone, gasoline, naphthalene, acetic acid,
vanillin, acetylene and esters are just a few examples of many useful organic
compounds. These compounds are produced by living organism. However, it can also
be prepared artificially.
