According to the preamble, the major goal of


the architects act, 1972 is to provide for the
registration of architects and related topics. It
is already in effect and applies to the entire
country of India.
FOR REGISTERATION: 04

BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE:
Degrees are conferred by Indian Universities founded by an Act of the
Central or State Legislature; and by the Indian Institute of
Technology, Kharagpur.

DIPLOMAS IN ARCHITECTURE:
National Diploma in All India Council for Technical Education

Sir J.J School of Art, Bombay, five-year full-time diploma after 1941.
National Diploma of the Andhra Pradesh State Board of Technical
Education and Training, taking effect from 1960;

ARCHITECTS:
A few of the Architect's Responsibilities to the Contractor: Because the
architect is not a party to the contract, the scope of liability to the
contractor is extremely restricted, depending on the circumstances of
the case. In general,

1. The architect cannot incur any personal duty to the contractor.


2. The architect is not liable to the contractor for damages incurred as a

result of his acts, even if they are incorrect yet within his jurisdiction.
3. The contractor may not sue the architect for certifying smaller
interim payments than are due.
4. If the architect exceeds his authority, he will be held guilty for
damages.

The Council of Architecture (COA) was established by the
Government of India in accordance with the terms of the Architects
Act, 1972, enacted by the Parliament of India and entered into force
on September 1, 1972.
The Act mandates the registration of architects, as well as
educational criteria, recognized credentials, and standards of
practice that must be met by professional architects.
Anyone willing to practice the profession of Architect must be
registered with the Council of Architecture.

A person may practice architecture if he is registered with the


Council of Architecture and has a Certificate of Registration with
current renewals. The registration also grants the right to use the
title and style "Architect."

CONSTITUTION OF COA:

The Council shall consist of the following members, namely:—


five architects possessing recognised qualifications elected by the
Indian Institute of Architects from among its members;
two persons nominated by the All India Council for Technical
Education established by the Resolution of the Government of India
in the late Ministry of Education;
five persons elected from among themselves by heads of

architectural institutions in India imparting full-time instruction for


recognised qualifications;
one person nominated by the Institution of Surveyors of India from
among its members.

the Chief Architects in the Ministries of the Central Government to
which the Government business relating to defence and railways
has been allotted and the head of the Architectural Organisation in
the Central Public Works Department, ex officio;
one person nominated by the Central Government;
an architect from each State nominated by the Government of that
State;
two persons nominated by the Institution of Engineers (India) from
among its members.
