All of Us Our Dead: The Impact of Korean drama to Filipino students

All of Us Our Dead is a South Korean Drama and the story is all about zombie apocalypse.
The series mostly takes place at a high school in South Korea as a suddenly breaks out and
threatens the safety of the students. This popular K-drama is directed by Lee Jae-kyoo
and Kim Nam-su and the main cast artists of the series are; Park Ji-Hu as Nam On-Jo, Yoo
Chan-Young as Lee Cheong-san, Choi Yi-hyun as Choi Nam-ra, Park Solomon as Lee Su-
hyeok, Yoo In-soo as Yoon Gwi-nam, Lee Yoo-mi as Lee Na-yeon, Kim Byung-chul as Lee
Byeong-chan, Lee Kyu-hyung as Song Jae-ik, and Jeon Bae-soo as Nam So-ju. While All of
Us Are Dead hit Netflix in January 28, 2022, the K-drama was filmed years prior. According
to Cosmopolitan, the cast and crew filmed the drama almost two years ago. Looking at
Instagram posts from the actors, many behind-the-scenes photos are time-stamped for year
2020. Imagine, it took 2 years to produce a fun and exciting drama with its global success,
soaring to the Netflix Top 10 list in a different kind of countries, All of Us Our Dead has taken
the Philippines by storm.

As a K-drama fan, I can say that this zombie K-drama easily proved to the world that it had
so much more to it other than just a zombies because it had a great story line that provided
us with a lot of excitement and suspense, as well as amazing actors who offered so much
drama and heartbreak to the viewers. All the 12 episodes of All of Us Our Dead are all worth
to watch because the show depicts a group of high school and college students who are
trapped at Hyosan High School during a zombie virus outbreak, where they desperately try
to stay alive. Aside from the story about the infected zombies, there was just so much about
the characters and situations inside a high school that made All of Us Our Dead so relatable.
In this time pandemic, students are not allowed to go to school or go outside because of the
Covid-19 virus so a lot of Filipino people especially students are having a lot of fun watching
Korean drama’s during lockdowns. This is the reason why there is a big impact of watching
Korean dramas to us Filipinos because it is our kind of stress reliever when we are bored
and depressed. All of Us Our Dead Korean drama made a lot of Filipino viewers to inspire, to
learn a lot of lesson, and a motivation to always be brave in any kind of situation that makes
the strong bond with each other.

In this drama, the Filipino viewers are becoming creative when it comes on doing memes
and remaking funny videos on facebook, tiktok, instagram and in other social media
accounts. At such, it really isn’t surprising that the show has spurred many memes online by
students reminiscing about their own high school experiences. With so many shared
moments and memories between Filipino students who can remember how things were like
in high school, the way they imagined about the face-to-face classes because of the story of
All of Us Our Dead that make the students want to go to school and hang out with their
friends. And what really excites and made us laugh the most are the memes because it is
really relatable to us students during our face-to-face classes. Also in the part of the main
lead artists, it made the viewers happy and at the same time sad because of the heart
breaking scene of Nam On-jo and Lee Cheong-san where in Gwi-nam the infected humbie
(Half Human and Half Zombie) bite Lee Cheong-san that made him become a zombie too
and he died. It is too late when the female lead Nam On-jo realizes how important Lee
Cheong-san to him and that scene really breaks a lot of viewers because some of them are
relate to the story and there is a saying “Nasa huli ang pagsisisi”. And the scene of Lee Su-
hyeok and the class president Cho Yi-hyun where in Su-hyeok is secretly inlove with the
class president but in the end, Su-hyeok become a humbie too that made their love story
become a little bit complicated but in the story line, Su-hyeok can control herself not to eat
human unless if she’s really hungry but she didn’t eat her friends surrounded by her instead
she tries to eat a zombie who are trying to attack her friends.

I recommend Filipino people to watch the Korean drama, All of Us Our Dead because we
can learn a lot of lesson of it. By watching it, we can realize how important for us to give love
and show care to our parents, friends and loved ones now that they are still alive because
we don’t know what will happen so we need to spend time with them before it’s too late.

I assure that the viewers should be more open-minded to understand the message of the
whole story for them to pick a lesson by appreciating little things. For me as a Korean drama
fan, what I have learned about watching All of Us Our Dead is not to waste time and enjoy
life while we are still hype and alive because a life given to us by God is very precious so we
need to appreciate it.

Korean drama is not just a k-drama without learning’s and motivations to inspire the viewers;
it also helps the people to become more creative and productive to make their own life
beautiful and wonderful. The said Korean drama, All of Us Our dead is indeed a work piece
because of the story that made a lot of Filipino like me relates to the story and also the
impact of a lot of the Filipino students by remembering the pasts that happened in their high
school and college days.
