11. Briefly explain the working principle of UPS using proper block diagrams. 5
15. (a) What is a snubber circuit? Explain the usage of snubber circuits in SCR. 2.5
(b) The input voltage of Fig.-01 is 𝑉𝑠 = 200𝑉with load resistance of R=5Ω. The 2.5
load and stray inductance are negligible and the thyristor is operated at a frequency
of 𝑓𝑠 = 2 𝑘ℎ𝑧. If the required dv/dt is 100 V/μs and the discharge current is to be
limited to 100A, determine the values of Rs and Cs.

(b) Draw a waveform of a buck regulator indicating input voltage, input current, 4
inductor current and capacitor current and load current.
19. What is a GTO? Explain the turn-off action in GTO with a proper circuit diagram. 5
10. Draw the topology of a boost regulator and hence deduce the equation of output 5
voltage and inductor ripple current.

(a) Buck regulator
(b) Boost regulator. 5
26. A single phase dual converter is operated from a 120V, 60Hz supply and the load 5
resistance is R=10 ohm. The circulating inductance is L𝑟= 40 mH. Delay angle are

The single-phase full-bridge inverter in the Figure has a resistive load of R = 2.4 Ω and the
dc input voltage is Vs = 48V. Determine:
b) What are the limitations of the method of speed control for a cycloconverter ? 3
30. The input voltage to the cycloconverter in fig is 120v (rms), 60Hz. The load 5
resistance is 5Ω and load inductance is L = 40 mH. The frequency of output voltage
is 20Hz. If the converters are operated as semiconductors such that 0≤𝝰 ≤π and the
delay angle is 𝝰 𝑝 = 2π/3, determine
