Learning Competency: Differentiate basic features and importance of photosynthesis and

respiration

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

lives; and
 draw a simple diagram of photosynthesis and respiration that shows
their differences.

A. ROUTINARY ACTIVITIES (5 minutes)
 Prayer
Kath, lead the prayer. Kath leads the prayer.
“Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed
be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.”
 Greetings
“Good morning class!” “Good morning Ma’am!”
 Checking of Attendance
“Who is absent today?” “None Ma’am”
 Review of the previous lesson.
“Last week, we discuss about the
part of plant and animal cell. Can
anyone give a brief description about
their similarity and differences?” Rebecca raises her hand.

“ Yes Rebecca, please give a brief Rebecca: Both plants and animals are
description about their similarity and eukaryotic cells, so they have a membrane
differences,” bound organelles like nucleus and
mitochondria. However, there are
organelles that are not present in plants but
present in animals and vice-versa.
“Can you give me an organelle that
present in plant but not on animals
and an organelle that present in both Rebecca: “Chloroplast Ma’am, an
cell?” organelle that present in plants but on
animals and the organelle that present in
both cells is mitochondria.”
“Okay very good!”
“Can anyone give me a function of Blissel raises her hand.
chloroplast and mitochondria?”
“Yes, Blissel.”
Blissel: “Chloroplast is where the
photosynthesis occur and mitochondria is
“Okay very good!” where the respiration happens.”

B. MOTIVATION (10 minutes)

“Okay class, I will show you a pictures and I want
you to answer my random questions. Class, do you Yes Ma’am!
understand?

Quezzey raises her hand.

(Show the picture of trees) Quezzey: “It can give us fresh air and for
“Okay class, what is the important of plants like us to breath. And also, it can give us foods
trees can give to us? Ma’am.”
“That’s right!”

Junaidah raises her hand.

Junaidah: “The relationship of the plants to

animals is that plants give oxygen and

foods to animals while the animals give

carbon dioxide to plants to grow.”
(Shows the pictures of animals)
“Okay, what about this class. What is the
relationship of plants to animals and vice versa?”

‘Yes, Junaidah’

“That’s good!”
“Now class, the picture that I presented to you is
connected with the discussion that we have today
which is the photosynthesis and respiration. Since,
you already have a prior knowledge about where
the photosynthesis and respiration happens; let us
proceed to their basic features and the importance
of their processes.
C. LESSON PROPER (35 minutes)
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration occurs in
different organelle of the cell namely; chloroplast
and mitochondria in which the chloroplast only
presents in the plant cell and the mitochondria
present in both plant and animal cell.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
A. Activity: Watch Me!
“Class, I will be going to present a short video (3
minutes) about the simple process of the
photosynthesis and respiration. I want you to
remember, comprehend and listen carefully because
I will give you an activity after the video (Students started counting….)
presentation. Is that clear class? Alexa: one
Paula: two……

B. Analysis (Students prepare the materials)

according to your number. Each group should have
five students.

“Each group should form a circle, please do it

silently.” (students started to make their poster
“Now class, prepare all the materials that I mention making)
during our last meeting that needed for today’s
activity.”
“Okay, draw a simple diagram of photosynthesis
and respiration that shows their differences.” I will
give you the rubrics for your guide. Do you
understand class? I will give you 15 minutes to do
the activity. Please see the attached rubrics in Table
1 below.
“Okay class, I have a condition. The group who
submitted first their output, I will give 4 points. So,
start now”
C. ABSTRACTION

The teacher shows the simple diagram that shows

the process of photosynthesis and cellular
respiration.

Photosynthesis occurs primarily in the

chloroplast, which converts carbon dioxide and
water into oxygen and glucose. In the process,
sunlight absorb in the chlorophyll an organelle of
the chloroplast that absorb light and uses as an
energy to generates throughout the process. The
raw materials for these process are carbon dioxide
and water in the process of light dependent
process which yield or produce into oxygen and
glucose that primarily used as the raw materials of
cellular respiration. Glucose used as food by the
plant and oxygen is a by-product.

Cellular respiration occurs in the mitochondria,

which converts oxygen and glucose into water and
carbon dioxide. In the process, the glucose enters
in the cytoplasm to the mitochondria through the
different processes. In which, water and carbon
dioxide are by- products and ATP is energy that is
transformed from the process.

These two processes play a crucial role in every

biotic organism for the survival. Through,
photosynthesis there is an increase of oxygen in
the atmosphere that helps the oxygen dependent
living organism to survive. And, through the
cellular respiration, it provides cells with the
energy they need to function and to generates the
process of photosynthesis in the plant.

D. APPLICATION

Activity: FIND ME!

“Okay class, we will have an activity and this

activity is answered individually.”
“So, in the activity, you are going to identify the
name of the features of the both photosynthesis
and respiration in the given box. You will going to
find the right word from the box to fill out the
blank in the diagram.” I will give 5 minutes to “Yes, Ma’am”
answer. Are we clear?

“Class do you have questions” “ None, Ma’am”

“Okay, start now.”

V. AGREEMENT/ASSIGNMENT

To understand more about the photosynthesis and

respiration, the students will research more about
these two processes and their importance to life.
After the students do their research, they will
make a reflection paper on how the photosynthesis
and respiration play a vital role in life of all living
organism.

Guidelines:
 Make a reflection paper about the
importance of photosynthesis and
respiration to life.
 Maximum of 3 paragraph with a
maximum of 5 sentences.
 Write the reflection paper in a A4
bond paper.
