II. Introduction:
Telescope is an instrument used in optics, which is also a part of physics. Optics is the
branch of physics which involves the behavior and properties of light, including its
interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it.
This project is conducted to test if telescopes can be made with simple things found
at home. Since we barely have telescopes in our homes because of its costly price, this
project sought to make a telescope that has the same function but can be cheaper than
those we can buy at stores.
C. Hypothesis
Telescopes can be made from simple things found at home, and has the same function.
D. Null Hypothesis
You look at the night sky for an example, and you see that there are many stars in the
sky. You want to see the stars closer, but you can’t. You need a telescope. The nearest
observatory site is miles away from your home, and you can’t buy a telescope because it
costs a lot of money. This project’s significance is to learn how telescopes really works
and how we can make a simple telescope from the things we see at house.
In this project we focused on using cheap materials rather than buying expensive things.
We also focused on the concept of optics, more specifically on lenses.
III. Abstract
IV. Methodology
Materials Needed:
2 Lenses (1 magnifying)
Glue gun
Masking tape
Procedure :
2. Make sure that you test your lens on how far can it focus an image. So that you will
know how long and wide will your plastic tube is.
3. Get your first lens and place it inside (1 inch) in the first end of the plastic tube.
4. Make sure it is placed properly and tape it into position with your masking tape.
5. Once it is properly taped, use a glue gun to stick the lens to the first end.
6. Do the same with the second lens to the other end of your plastic or paper tube.
7. There you have it! You can enjoy playing with your telescope.
8. Optional: If you don’t like the color of the plastic or paper tube, you can paint it with
your desired color. Be creative and have fun.
V. Results
At the start of this project, we had a hypothesis that telescopes made by recycled and
home materials can function the same with expensive telescopes. In this project, we
found out that we should not use just any lenses but one specific objective lens. The light
enters both of the lenses and then reflect it to a focal point where they meet. Therefore
we can say that the results of this project is successful and we made a telescope with a
great magnifying focus.
