Antenor Module 5 Act 1
2B2-FSM
1. Teacher observes that when students submit report, the more ornate and artistic the
folder is, the less substantial the report. Which weakness in the Filipino character is
pointed to? If you were the teacher, how do you counteract such?
I think this weakness Filipino Character is Emphasis on porma rather than substance. If I will the
teacher, I will appreciate his/her creativity but I will also follow the given criteria. It is not about the
appearance of the output but it is all about the substance.
2. In line with the governments’ austerity program, DepEd reiterates the following policies:
Senior promenade, and other school events should not be imposed as requirements for graduation or
completion. (D.O. # 02, s. 2019)
Which of the weaknesses of the Filipino does this DepEd Order wish to help eliminate? Explain.
I think it is Emphasis on porma rather than substance because we Filipino are used to doing it even if
it is not a study requirement. on the other hand, it is only done for fun like promenade. We are doing
promenade in schools just to have an experience to wear gown or expensive clothes. We wear
expensive clothes but we only eat some biscuits and soft drinks. We Filipinos are having a big event
without budget so that I can relate in that Filipino weaknesses.
3. In a post-observation conference, school heads cite points for improvement for the
teacher observed. It happens that there are more points for improvement than positive
The weaknesses of Filipinos that DepEd is trying to eliminate are the extreme personalism and lack of
self-analysis and self-reflection. And I think this is one of the weaknesses of every Filipino that
everyone of us has encounter. We are being hate by someone because there is situation that some of
the listeners are taking your thought personally specially if they don’t agree of what you are saying. I
think the best thing we can do is to talk to our member to have an open mind specially in listening and
sharing opinion.
4. What should be done in the Philippine basic education system so that it is more
These are just some examples on what should be done in the Philippine education system so that it is
more substance than form
Supporting K to 12.
1) extreme family centeredness: Families can get overly conservative and religious at times. For
example, a government official may offer a community project to a family member or relative since it
will benefit this individual.
2) extreme personalism: When someone is giving an advice and they don’t agree with it. They will
take it personally.
3) lack of discipline: When in attending mass or event instead of attending in the right time other
Filipino is attending late.
4) passivity and lack of initiative: Some situation in our home like doing household chores. We are not
going to do it when our parent didn’t tell us.
5) colonial mentality- Like millennials nowadays they know all of the places in Korea than Philippines.
They also apply other countries culture in our Filipino culture.
6) kanya-kanya syndrome, talangka mentality: Some situation in class when you know what to do but
instead of sharing it to your classmate you choose to be quite so that you can only comply in activity.
7) lack of self-analysis and self-reflection are manifested in Philippine society: Yes, like when it COMES
decision making in career. Some of us are not thinking wisely when it comes to what courses are we
going to take.
Explain how schools can help counteract act such negative traits.
School can help student to develop their traits. Communication with teachers and classmates can help
us to have an open mind so that we can have a wide knowledge. Having a circle of friends also has a
big contribution it the way that your friends can influence you in doing horrific actions and thoughts.
Aside from the influences of the formal curriculum, there are in influences of the ‘hidden curriculum’,
i.e. the values taught informally by the Philippine school system. Schools are highly authoritarian
with the teachers as central focus. The Filipino student is taught to be dependent on the teacher, so
he attempts record verbatim what the teacher says and to give this back in its original form with little
Teachers reward well-behaved and obedient students and are uncomfortable with those who ask
questions and express different viewpoints... Critical thinking is not learned in school.
It is true that one of the reasons why students learned critical thinking is because of school. Like what
our teacher doing in our classes, she is discussing with interaction by having a recitation ang giving us
a reward. Our teachers give us plus points so that we can be motivated and have an active listening
skill.
Build in opportunities for students to find connections in learning. Schools can also the room for
improvement. Student can show they talents and ability. We also apply and make connection our
student life to real life so that we can practice our thinking skills.
