1.what Are The Challenges Faced by Adolescents?
We all know that adolescence or puberty has a huge change not only in physical,
mental, or social self, it also set new challenges that can affect our day to day life. One
of the challenges that every teenager may experience was violence. When teenagers
are driven to make friends and have a greater reliance on them, they are denied
chances to seek advice from elders and as a result, violence occurs due to
misunderstanding and bad groupings which becomes a threat to society. Another
challenge that every teenager may experience was premarital sex. With reference to
some stage of adolescence, the teenage boys and girls experience an increased sexual
urge for the opposite sex without knowing the consequences of early boy-girl
relationships. The girls may end up pregnant causing the girl to withdraw from society or
to abort and discard the shame. Abortion is an act of killing which is not allowed within
society. In the sexual activity, both the boy and the girl may be infected with sexually
transmitted diseases like syphilis which may affect their childbearing in adulthood. Drug
abuse and usage are also considered as one of the most common challenges that may
experience during adolescence. At some stages in adolescents, there is an increase in
peer relationships and also a tendency to distance themselves from parents. These
areas lead the adolescents to smoking, drinking alcohol, excess dieting due to peer
pressure and influence. The behavior results to poor health, seclusion from home and
school avoidance. Lastly, teenage suicide is one of the most typical challenges that
every teenager may experience. This factor would arise when the person does not
communicate the value of life, decides that life is valueless, and does not provide for
solutions.
The said four challenges (violence, premarital sex, drug abuse, and teenage
suicide) mention above are only some of the problems that every teenager may
experience. Although it is hard and scary to experience, we need to face reality and
protect ourselves to enable us to surpass those challenges.
First, we need to follow some of the advice of our parents. Usually, during our
puberty, we tend to discover different things that we didn't able to do during our
childhood. We try to explore things because we thought that we already knew a lot of
stuff. But we didn't know that there were things that we need to do with the proper
guidance of our parents to enable us to commit mistakes or regret. Second, choose
your friends wisely. During our adolescence, friends or peers have a great presence
and effect during this stage. We always stick to our peers during these times because
we know that we can relate to them so much. Our likes and hates are almost the same
that sometimes we spend more of our time with them compare to our relatives. Because
of that, friends can influence you towards your attitude and thinking. That's why we need
to choose our friends wisely so that we couldn't ruin our teenage life. Also, it doesn't
matter if you had only fewer friends as long as they are true and worth trusty persons.
Third, ask for help if you think you couldn't carry it anymore. You could always seek help
from your teacher or your parents for advice to find a solution to your problem especially
that teenagers are very prone to anxiety, depression, etc.
Challenges from adolescence are one of the hardest things to face. It is strange
and new for us because we tend to think like full-grown being. But as we said, we need
to face our problems/challenges to enable us to grow. It is the period when we start
making our own decisions and doing our own thing. We don't have our parents holding
our hands anymore. We need to accept and face those challenges to enable ourselves
to prepare for adult life.
