Discussion

WHAT IS CONFLICT IN A STORY?

Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces. Characters must act to

confront those forces, and there is where Conflict is born. If there is nothing
to overcome, there is no story. Conflict in a story creates and drives the plot
forward.

We all know that Conflict is needed to keep readers or viewers

engaged, create an emotional response, and ultimately push the story
forward. Conflict is what comes from the challenges that the protagonist
must solve or resolve to achieve a goal. Without Conflict in a story, the film,
show, or novel may become boring. Thus, Conflict is a necessary element in
any story.
