RFID Based Passport System

Abstract

The main functionality of this project is to access the passport details of a passport
holder through RFID technology. For this purpose the authorized person is given an RFID
card. This card contains an integrated circuit that is used for storing, processing information
through modulating and demodulating of the radio frequency signal that is being transmitted.
Thus, the data stored in this card is referred as the passport details of the person.

Passport verification and checking is a very time consuming process. This proposed system
simplifies the process by giving the authorized person an RFID tag containing all the passport
details like name, passport number and nationality etc. Once, the person places the card in
front of the RFID card reader, it reads the data and verifies it with that data present in the
system and if it matches then it displays the details of the passport holder.

Here we use microcontroller from 8051 family. For display a 16X2 LCD is used. The status
also can be retrieved from this system by pressing the status button interfaced to a
microcontroller.

Further the project can be enhanced by using finger printer module. This overcomes the
drawbacks of RFID and provides high level of security in the system.

Topic Name:
RFID BASED PASSPORT SYSTEM

Introduction

Existing System

The existing passport system is time consuming due to the manually checking. due to manual
checking the person can easily misuse the document by changing the photo and names on it
but in this system it is not possible since the data WILL BE IN THE computer and person
will not able to change the photo and information and less time will be consumed for the
verification of the password

3.1 RFID Technology:

RFID uses wireless radio communications to uniquely identify objects or people, and
is one of the fastest growing automatic data collection (ADC) technologies, which is
comprising one or more reader/interrogators and RF transponders in which data transfer is
achieved by means of suitably modulated inductive or radiating electro-magnetic carriers. In
addition it can be used as a data carrier, with information being written and updated to the tag
on the fly. RFID systems carry data in suitable transponders, generally known as tags, and
retrieve data, by machine-readable means, at a suitable time and place to satisfy particular
application needs.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying

on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An
RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person
for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon
chips and antennas. Passive tags require no internal power source, whereas active tags require
a power source.

Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the
reader. In writable transponders, the reader can write data to the transponder in three
procedures. Inductively coupled RFID system uses EEPROMs, FRAMs and microwave
systems commonly use SRAMs. The important feature of power supply to the transponder is
drawn either from the field of reader (Passive tag) or from the battery incorporated in the tag
(Active/Semi-active tag).

An RFID tag is an object that can be applied to or incorporated into a product, animal,
or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Some tags can be read from
several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.
Most RFID tags contain at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and
processing information, modulating and demodulating a (RF) signal and can also be used for
other specialized functions. The second is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the
signal. A technology called chip less RFID allows for discrete identification of tags without
an integrated circuit, thereby allowing tags to be printed directly onto assets at lower cost
than traditional tags.

Proposed System:

Here we have designed system which will check the passport is valid or invalid it will
also check that the person is authorized user or not and will send the message to the
registered mobile no

Main Modules:-

MODULE DESCRIPTION:

1. Check the passport

2. Person carrying passport is valid or not
3. The person identification will be easy
Features:
• User waiting time can reduce in this system.
• We can reduce wrong use of passport.

CONCLUSION

The rfid passport system will help the person to check the person vaild or invalid.
With the help of the rfid passport system we can easily check the person details unlike old
system the person cannot able to change the details . this system will help to reduce the
human work

Application:-

➢ It is used to identify the person

➢ It is used for detection of unauthorized person carrying passport
➢ It can used to keep person’s identity safe
