KINGDOM LIVING
1 Peter 2:9-12
INTRODUCTION: Jesus said a person must be "born again" in order to see or
enter the kingdom of God. Once we have been born again we are to live like the
children of the King. Peter admonishes the people of God to live differently from
the world.
I. BELIEVER'S POSITION
A. PRIVILEGES DESCRIBED.
1. Chosen generation. (1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Thess. 2:13)
2. Royal priesthood. (offer spiritual sacrifices: 1Pet. 2:5)
3. Holy nation. (citizens of God's kingdom: Col. 1:13; 1 Thess. 2:12)
4. People of God. (peculiar means purchased: 1 Pet. 1:18-19; 1 Cor. 6:20)
B. PURPOSE DEFINED.
1. Believers declaring the praises of God. (1 Pet. 3:15
2. Believers' deliverance from the power of darkness. (Col. 1:13)
Martyn Lloyd-Jones: "The glory of the gospel is that when the Church is
absolutely different from the world, she invariably attracts it. It is then that the
world is made to listen to her message, though it may hate it at first. That is how
revival comes. That must also be true of us as individuals. It should not be our
ambition to be as much like everybody else as we can, though we happen to be
Christian, but rather to be as different from everybody who is not a Christian as
we can possibly be. Our ambition should be to be like Christ, the more like Him
the better, and the more like Him we become, the more we shall be unlike
everybody who is not a Christian."
LESSONS FOR LIFE:
1. God has given us what we need to live for Him. (2 Peter 1:3)
2. Our witness to a lost world concerning Christ and salvation will only be
credible when it is evident in our daily walk.
3. Is your life as a Christian different from everybody who is not a Christian?
4. No one has arrived spiritually, but do you have a heart desire to be your best for
Christ? Are there things you need to confess or give up for King Jesus?
