JESUS: THE KING OF KINGS

John 12:12-16.

A king is one who rules over a certain people. He has authority over them in every way. He gives commands
and receives obedience to such commands. He controls the affairs of the people politically, socially and
economically. In some cultures of the world, the kingship is hereditary, while in others it is by selection of a
successor. The Bible has records of a lot of kings and the period when they reign. One of the first recorded
kings mentioned in the Bible was called Nimrod (Genesis 10:8-12). After him, we have had many other kings.
These kings and their kingdom lasted just for a while. There is no king that rules and reigns forever. Therefore,
we can never compare the kings of the earth with the kingship of Jesus Christ. He is the King of kings, who
reigns over all the earth and His reign is everlasting. His kingdom does not have an end. Who do you choose
to follow, the temporal king of this earth or Jesus the King of kings? The study is in three parts:

1.THE LIMITED POWER OF EARTHLY KINGS: Psalm 2:2, II Kings 24:1; Exodus 5:1-3; Luke 3:1-2.
The kings of this world come to reign over their people for some specific period, die and their kingdoms
ends just like that. Their reign is not forever, so also is their life. Examples of such kings who reigned over
their people with limited power were: (1) Pharaoh, the king of Egypt (Exodus 5:1-2). He was a wicked king
who made the people of God to suffer. He eventually perished in the red sea. (2) King Saul, the first king of
Israel. He stopped following God. He died in a strange land (I Samuel 16:1). (3) King David (Psalm 27:4), he
served God with a perfect heart. God honoured him. (4) King Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. He was
proud and God punished him (Daniel 4:28-34). (5) King Herod (Luke 2:13-16). He was an enemy of God. He
came under the judgement of God and he was eaten up by worms.
These kings reigned over just a particular area of land and community of people. Some of them did well
while many were proud, wicked and worshipped idols. They are ordinary human beings who have limited
power. They are not to be worshipped. Jesus is the only King that deserves our worship and honour.

2. THE UNLIMITED POWER OF JESUS, THE KING OF KINGS:

Daniel 4:3; Matthew 28:18; John 12:12-15.
The kingship of Jesus has no end. He is the King both on earth and in heaven. He has power over all the
kings who have ever lived on the earth. He is still in control of the affairs of everyone on earth including boys
and girls.
Our Lord Jesus has the power over all things. The kings of this earth has power over only the body. They
can punish and kill the body but they cannot kill the soul. Jesus is God. We must obey Him. He has the power
to kill the body and the soul (i.e. send it to hell fire). He also has power over (i) Nature. He commanded the
wind to stop and it obeyed (Mark 4:35-39), (ii) Death (John 11:43-44), (iii) Sickness and disease (Matthew
10:1), (iv) Evil spirit and satan (Matthew 10:1). (v) Life He gives life and raises the dead to life (John 11:25;
2:6,43-44). As the King of kings, Jesus was humble and loving. He does not rule with force. He has shown us
love by dying on the cross for our sin. Are you saved? Open your heart to Jesus and let Him come in and reign
in your life.

3. THE BLESSINGS OF ACCEPTING THE KING OF KINGS: Matthew 11:28-30; John 1:12;
John 12:12-16.
The King of kings came to this world to save everyone including you. The Bible clearly stated that “as
many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on his name:” (John 1:12). Let Jesus come and reign in your heart.
There are many blessings for all who accept Jesus the King of kings (i) Salvation from sin (ii) Victory over
satan (iii) Protection from all evil (iv) Provision from God (v) Answer to prayers (vi) Wisdom and knowledge
of God and (vii) Everlasting life in heaven. These blessings are not for sinners but for friends of Jesus only.
For you to receive these blessings, you must stop doing bad things and let Jesus the King of kings rule and
reign in your life.

QUESTIONS:
1. Who is a king?
2. The kings of this earth have limited power. Yes/No?
3. Who is the King of kings?
4. Jesus as King of kings have power over ___________________, ______________ and _______________
4. What steps should a sinner take for the King of kings to reign in his heart?

MEMORY VERSE: “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS,
AND Lord OF Lords.” (Revelation 19:16).

JESUS IS COMING SOON
Revelation 22:10-21.
This present time, is often referred to as the last days. This is because of the things that are now
happening around us. They confirm all the things that the Bible said would happen when Jesus is about
to come. All the signs concerning the second coming of Christ can be seen all around us. There are clear
facts which shows that the coming of the Lord is very near. Sinners in and outside the church, backsliders,
careless and lukewarm Christians will be left behind during His second coming. Knowing that these things
shall soon come to pass, what manner of persons ought believers to be? (II Peter 3:11). The study is in
three parts:

1. THE PROMISE OF HIS COMING: Revelation 22:10-13; John 14:1-3.

Jesus came into the world as it was prophesied, He was born of a virgin, He did great works, suffered,
died and rose from the dead. When He was almost through with His work here on earth, He revealed to
His friends the certainty of His second coming. His friends were very sad that Jesus was going to leave
them. Then He gave them a sure promise that He was going to heaven to prepare a place for them and
that He would definitely come back to take them home.
The promise of Christ can never fail or change because He is God. The promise of Jesus’ second
coming is a great comfort to all Christian boys and girls. The world is corrupt, wicked and will definitely
pass away. As believers, we are not to be carried away by all the things we are seeing (I John 1:17). We
must believe the promise of God and prepare for His coming. We should always remember this great
promise and rejoice because Christ will surely come as He has promised and it will be very soon.

2. THE PURPOSE OF HIS SECOND COMING: Revelation 1:7,8; John 14:1-3.

When Christ first come to the earth, He paid the price for our salvation by dying on the cross. He
came to seek and to save the lost. But His second coming will be different. There are specific purposes
for His second coming. These reasons are to: (1) Bring to life the righteous people who have died (I
Thessalonians 4:13,14). (2) Change the bodies of the saints who are alive. (3) Take all the saints (both
resurrected and living) out of this world before the great tribulation (II Thessalonians 2:1,7,8).
(4) Take all the saints to be with Christ in heaven. (5) Gather friends of Jesus to receive rewards for
their love and labour. (6) Gather all the saints together to partake of the marriage supper of the Lamb.
(7) Execute judgment upon the unrepented sinners in the world at the end.
Jesus is coming to take believers to their place of rest, you must be prepared to go with Him. Do not
be left behind!

3. PREPARATION FOR HIS COMING: Revelation 22:10-14; Matthew 24:42-51;

Mark 13:22-33; Luke 21:34-36; Ephesians 6:13
Jesus shared with us a lot of parables to show the need or importance of adequate preparation for
His coming. The careless and unprepared children will be disappointed on that day. Therefore, you must
be prepared and fully ready for the second coming of Christ. The greatest event that the church is waiting
for now is the rapture, which is the first aspect of the second coming of Christ.
To prepare for the coming of the Lord therefore, sinners and backsliders must repent of all sins,
confess them to God in prayer, ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Jesus, accept Jesus as
Lord and Saviour. They must also determine never to go back to sin any more. Friends of Jesus must be
holy, spotless in speech and character, watchful, prayerful and continue preaching His word until He
comes. Jesus said: “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is” (Mark
13:33). Jesus is coming very soon. Do not let Him meet you unprepared!

QUESTIONS:
1. The second coming of Christ is very near. Yes/No?
2. What did Jesus promise His friends in John 14:1-3?
3. Mention three of the purposes of Jesus’ second coming.
4. How should (a) sinners and backsliders (b) friends of Jesus prepare for His second
coming?

MEMORY VERSE: “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12).
STUDY 189 | SCHOOL OUTREACH OUTLINE
HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM
Acts 19:1-7; 1:8; 2:1-4
The primary purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the receiving of power to preach the
gospel so that the lost will be won over to Jesus and taught to obey all that Christ commanded.
Paul’s question in our text refers to the baptism in the Holy Spirit for power and ministry, the
same as that which happened at Pentecost. However, a person must be born again and
sanctified before he can receive the Holy Ghost baptism.
The message is divided into three:

1. THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: Luke 24:47-49; Acts 1:8

Jesus said “... without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Before His departure, Jesus
told His disciples that He would send the promise of the Father which is the Holy Spirit. Jesus
knew that the work of evangelism would not continue without the power of Holy Spirit. The
Holy Spirit gives the power required to live for God and do His work very well. The Holy Spirit
does the following: (i) He makes believers to be bold in preaching the love of Jesus to sinners.
(ii) He reveals the truth and teaches believers the word of God. (iii) He guides and leads
believers on the right path (iv) He brings conviction to the heart of sinners and (v) He helps
friends of Jesus to pray so that they can receive answers to their prayers. Have you received
the Holy Spirit?

2. PREPARING TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT: Acts 1:4,5; 19:4-5

The disciples knew that God had promised to baptize them in the Holy Spirit. Therefore,
they made themselves ready and available and they were able to receive the Holy Spirit.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, great signs and wonders was done by Peter, Paul and the
other friends of Jesus in the book of Acts. If you are still doing bad things, you cannot receive
the Holy Spirit. You must first of all become a friend of Jesus by confessing your sins to God.
Then, repent and ask for forgiveness and cleansing in the blood of Jesus. Accept Jesus as your
Saviour and Friend. After that, you must pray to be sanctified. Thereafter, you will now begin
to earnestly pray to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. If you don’t receive immediately, don’t give
up, have faith and continue to pray; you will definitely receive in Jesus’ Name.

3. RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT: Acts 2:1-4; 19:6

Although the disciples at Ephesus had been born again and sanctified but they had not
yet received the Holy Ghost baptism. After Paul spoke to them about the need to receive the
Holy Spirit power, they made necessary preparation to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Have you
made yourself ready to receive the Holy Spirit? You must put away every unclean thing and
ask God to give you a holy heart. If God sees any unclean thing in you, He will not baptize you
in the Holy Spirit. He has promised to baptize every true and holy friend of Jesus. Have you
received the Holy Spirit since you became a friend of Jesus? Rise up and pray.

QUESTIONS:
1. Only born-again friends of Jesus can receive the Holy Spirit. Yes/No?
2. Mention three reasons why friends of Jesus need the Holy Spirit baptism.
3. What are the steps to receiving the Holy Ghost?
4. What must a sinner do to receive the Holy Ghost?
5. Have you received the Holy Ghost?

MEMORY VERSE: “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came
on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” (Acts 19:6).

STANDING FOR THE TRUTH
Jude 1-4

Bola was the only Christian child among her other brothers and sisters in her family. She always
desired to obey God’s words in every way; yet her brothers and sisters would not stop
disturbing her. They would make jest of and laugh at her while she was praying. They used bad
language on her. Even her parents were not left out in the persecution. Sometimes, they would
beat Bola and disallow her from attending church fellowship. Bola was not moved by all her
persecutions. She always prayed that God would save all the members of her family. She
refused to disobey God’s words. One day, her mother heard a message through the radio about
the rapture. She was touched and through that message, she repented and became a Christian.
Through her, other members of the family became born-again. This happened because Bola
stood for the truth. The study is divided into three parts.

1. WHAT IT MEANS TO STAND FOR THE TRUTH: John 14:6; 8:32

To stand means to be in an upright position. It means to be ready at all times to defend,
fight and pursue what is right. Therefore, to stand for the truth means readiness to defend and
fight for the word of God. Jesus says, “I am the Truth.” This is to say that before any child
can stand for the truth, he must first have the truth in his heart. Jesus is the Truth Who sets
us free from every form of wickedness and bad things. Do you have Jesus living in your heart?
If no, pray now and ask for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Then invite
the Saviour to come into your heart, to be your Lord and Friend. Standing for the truth starts
from this point.

2. HOW TO STAND FOR THE TRUTH: Jude 3; Philippians 1:27; II Timothy 1:13
As a Christian child, Jesus expects you to stand for the truth even in times of suffering,
confusion and in the presence of false and wicked teachers. To stand for the truth, you need
to: (i) Be obedient to God’s word as it is in the Bible. (ii) Be prayerful and be in fellowship with
those who truly love God’s words. (iii) Read God’s word, recite it by heart, think on it and live
by it. (iv) Do not listen to false teachers and jesters. (v) Preach God’s love to sinners and
backsliders.

3. BLESSINGS FOR STANDING FOR THE TRUTH: II Timothy 4:6-8

Many of the apostles of Jesus and Christians through all ages stood and defended God’s
word. They even laid down their lives so that God’s word would spread. The result is that the
church grew and is still standing till today. When you stand for the truth: (a) God’s word will
spread and many sinners will be saved. (b) There will be signs and wonders in the fellowship.
(c) Many stubborn sinners will fear God. (d) You will have the hope of getting to heaven and
wearing the crown of life.
Are you standing for the truth in your home, school and among your friends? Think on this
and pray.

QUESTIONS:
1. What was the result of Bola’s action in her family?
2. Who is the Truth?
3. Standing for the truth means_____________________________________________
4. How can a Christian child stand for the truth?
5. How can a sinful child have the ‘Truth’ in his heart?

MEMORY VERSE: “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common
salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should
earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).
STUDY 191 | SCHOOL OUTREACH OUTLINE
PRAYING FOR OUR COUNTRY
Psalm 122:6; 2 Chronicles 7:14; I Timothy 2: 1-4.

This is a very important study because it is an essential duty for every friend of Jesus. Prayer is talking
to God. It is an act whereby a child makes his request known to God and desires an answer to his
request. As friends of Jesus, we are commanded to pray for all men and also for our nation. A lot of
people complain and do not pray when things go wrong in their country. This does not please God. He
wants us to pray for our nation and those in authority. We are not to murmur, complain, gossip or cut
them down with unkind words. God wants us to pray for our nation from a pure and holy heart. When
we do so, He will heal our land, guide our leaders and bring peace, prosperity, holiness and abundant
blessings upon our nation. The message is divided into three parts:

1. COMMAND TO PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY: Psalm 122:6; I Timothy 2: 1-2.

God wants us to be concerned and pray for the ungodly and worrisome condition of our nation.
Many people have forsaken the word of God. They do what pleases their selfish and evil heart and do
not have the fear of God. Therefore, there is much conflict and wicked killings. Men, women and children,
are abused, wasted and there is trouble everywhere. Jeremiah’s call to pray for Israel was from a broken
and concerned heart. He wanted God to have mercy upon the nation of Israel, take away all the problems
which their sins have brought upon them and restore peace to the nation (Jeremiah 7:14).
Paul the apostle also encourages us to pray for all men, especially for our leaders. It is our duty
as friends of Jesus to always pray for our nation (Luke 18:1, I Timothy 2:1-2). We should not join our
friends to say bad things about our leaders. We should rather pray that God will guide them to carry out
their responsibilities very well, so that we can have a ‘free, fair, peaceful and holy nation! We should
also pray that Jesus will rule and reign in our nation. We must remember also to pray for other friends
of Jesus that God will help them to behave well and not to join others to do evil, so that they can all
shine as light in darkness.

2. GODLY CHARACTER OF THE PRAYING CHILD: Chronicles 7:14; Psalm 66:18; 1 Timothy 2:8.
God wants us to pray but we must not pray with sin in our hearts. If we remove iniquity from our
lives, God will answer our prayers. Iniquities are the bad things that we do such as: stealing, keeping
malice, fighting, telling lies, being disobedient, watching ungodly films and dirty pictures, abusing people
etc. Sin separates us from God and hinders us from receiving answers when we pray (Isaiah 59: 1-2).
If you want God to answer your prayers, then you must repent of all your sins. God will always answer
the prayer of a child who has given his life to Jesus and is living a holy life.
If you are still a sinner, repent today of your sins and give your life to Jesus. As Josiah was used
of God to bring righteousness to Israel, so also God will use you as “the godly praying child” to bring
down His glory upon our nation.

3. BLESSINGS OF PRAYING FOR OUR NATION: I Timothy 2: 1-4; II Chronicles 7: 14.

The word of God says “If my People, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14). This verse of the Bible, shows us clearly, that
our nation will be blessed when we diligently pray. There will be: (a) forgiveness of sins, (b) healing for
everyone (c) holiness of life (d) peace, prosperity and abundant blessings for all! God is looking for boys
and girls who will pray for this nation (Ezekiel 22:30). Will God find you in the army of those who will
pray and bring righteousness and peace to the nation? There is great honour and rewards awaiting those
who will have the mind of God to pray and bring down the peace and blessings of God upon our nation.
Now is the time to pray.

QUESTIONS:
1. What is prayer?
2. God commands us to pray for our nation. Yes/No?
3. What should a sinful child do for his prayers to be effective?
4. Mention some prayer points for our nation.
5. Mention some of the blessings that will come upon our nation when we pray.

MEMORY VERSE: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
STUDY 192 | SCHOOL OUTREACH OUTLINE

GOD’S COMMANDMENT ON HOLINESS

1 Peter 1:13-16

Holiness means purity of heart. It also means to have a heart that is completely free from sin. A child
that is holy is gentle, truthful, pure in heart and character. The Bible commands us to follow peace
with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). Our God
is holy, pure and perfect. There is no uncleanness in God. As God’s children, we are commanded to be
holy because God is holy (I Peter 1:16). Holiness, according to the Bible is also referred to as -
sanctification, righteousness, circumcision of heart, perfection (Matthew 5:48). Holiness is the very
nature of God and an important experience that every true friend of Jesus must possess.
The study is divided into three parts:

1. BE YE HOLY: I Peter 1:13-16; Hebrews 12:14

God’s desire for all His children is to be holy. He commands that all should be holy. A friend of Jesus
must be free from doing bad things. Murmuring, complaining, use of abusive language, unforgiving heart,
envy etc must not be found in their lives. You must live a clean and pure life and be like Jesus to people
around you. Don’t think it is impossible for a child to live a holy life. God has commanded us to be holy
and if you are willing to obey Him, He will give you the grace to live a holy life. Sanctification is the
second work of grace after you become born again. Once you are saved, pray and ask God to sanctify
your heart. God will do it in Jesus Name. “If you be willing and obedient, you will eat the fruit of
the land” (Isaiah 1:19).

2. FRUITS OF A HOLY LIFE: Colossians 3:12-17; Galatians 5:22-24

Various fruits are produced by different fruit bearing trees such as mangoes, oranges, guava among
many others. We know these trees by the fruits they bear. In like manner, a child of God is expected to
bear all the fruits of holiness: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and
temperance. The fruits of a holy life have to do with our behaviour, love for God and Christian conduct
in this present sinful world. The word ‘holy’ is mentioned five hundred and ninety-six (596) times in the
Bible. Friends of Jesus are to live a holy and righteous life like Jesus who is our Saviour and perfect
example. They should be:
(i) Humble and honest like Christ (Matthew 11:29; 18:14).
(ii) Obedient to God’s word and His will (John 14:15,21; Acts 5:29).
(iii) Love the Saviour, saints and sinners (John 15:9,10).
(iv)Yielded to God and say yes to all His commandments (Galatians 2:20; 5:24; Colossians 1:10).

3. BLESSINGS FOR LIVING HOLY: I Thessalonians 5:23; Psalm 106:3

A holy life pleases God. He has provided abundant blessings for all that will be holy. Good health,
prosperity, protection, provision, promotion, good success, joy, peace are some of the blessings you will
receive if you live holy. A holy life gives total victory, joy and freedom. It promotes love, unity and
oneness among friends of Jesus. No matter what you may be passing through in life, continue to follow
God and live holy; God will surely bless you!
Above all these blessings, heaven is a sure home for every friend of Jesus who will continue to follow
Jesus till the end. Rise up and pray.

QUESTIONS:
1. What is holiness?
2. Mention five fruits of holiness.
3. How can a child be holy?
4. Mention two other names for holiness.
5. Can a sinful child receive the blessings of holiness?

MEMORY VERSE: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”
(Colossians 3:14).
STUDY 193 | SCHOOL OUTREACH OUTLINE
PUNISHMENT FOR FALSE TEACHERS
Jude 1:5-15
‘False’ simply means something that is untrue. The opposite of true is false. In your examination or test
questions, you often see true/false as options to choose from. Therefore, when something is not true, it
must be false. In our study today, we are looking at a set of people known as false teachers. They are
the opposite of true teachers who show us the way of light. Anyone that is a false teacher or any child
who follows false teachers is under God’s punishment. This study will serve to warn you so that you can
escape the punishment of God.

1. WHO ARE FALSE TEACHERS? Jude 1:1-5; 2 Peter 2:1

False teachers are the people who teach what God does not command. They are not true friends of
Jesus. God warns that in the last days before the eventual coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, many false
prophets shall arise and try to deceive the children of God. They are deceivers. They deceive people by
telling them to make sacrifices to God when Jesus has already offered up Himself as a sacrifice for us.
They are like wild animals (wolves) that come to kill the sheep of Christ the Chief Shepherd. Friends of
Jesus must therefore beware of them (Acts 20:29,30). They make their followers to observe some
religious practices like burning of candles, using holy water and incense. With their false teachings, they
bring confusion into the church. They add and subtract from the word of God. They teach lies and turn
the word of God upside down. From such people, you must run away.

2. WORKS OF FALSE TEACHERS: Matthew 7:15,16,20; Acts 20:29,30; Titus 1:12-16

False teachers are servants of Satan who carry out assignments mainly to win followers for their
master. They do this through deceits. They always pretend to be good whereas they are bad. (i) They
teach people to do some religious work to earn salvation - like bathing in the river, using oil or “holy
water” and the use of rosary or wearing a cross (a crucifix of Christ). (ii) They make people to worship
angels and past saints. (iii) They preach and tell people to obey God’s word yet, they themselves will not
do what they preach. (iv) Some children belong to evil associations like witchcraft, familiar spirit and go
about to deceive other children to join their groups. (v) They use Satan’s power to do magic and call it
miracles. (vi) They love money more than holiness.
All these are the works of false teachers. They do all these to deceive and take many to hell fire.
Those who follow them to do such things will eventually be destroyed if they do not repent. Children
beware!

3. PUNISHMENT FOR FALSE TEACHERS: Jude 1:5-15; Revelation 22:18,19

The Bible passage above clearly states the end of all false teachers. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah
were destroyed by fire, so also hell fire has been prepared for all false teachers and their followers. If
God did not spare the angels that sinned but reserved them for hell, how much more will He not punish
children who follow false teachers? You must run away from false teachers and prophets, reject all kinds
of false teachings and doctrines that are not according to the word of God so that you will escape the
judgment and punishment of God.
If you have been deceived, Jesus is calling you today to come back to Him. Ask for forgiveness and
cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Always be in the company of those who love the Lord Jesus. Do
not attend their fellowhship or read their publications; books, magazines, tracts, comics, films and
videos. Stay away from false teachers so that they will not lead you astray. Rise up and pray for grace
to remain faithful and true to Jesus.

QUESTIONS:
1. False means ____________________________________________________________________
2. Who are false teachers?
3. Mention three things which they commonly do.
4. There is punishment for false teachers. Yes/No?
5. How can a child who has been deceived by false teachers be free?

MEMORY VERSE: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but
inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
STUDY 194 | SCHOOL OUTREACH OUTLINE
CHARACTERISTICS OF FALSE TEACHERS
Jude 8, 16-19

In our previous Bible Study, we discussed about false teachers and how to avoid them. The question
then that may come to your mind is, why are we so concerned about false teachers? The answer is
in I Timothy 4:1-2. We are in the last days as stated in the Bible. There are many false teachings
all around us and that is why we need to know everything about them so as not to be deceived and
fall into their trap. The end of false teachers and their followers is hell fire. Therefore, you must
beware and avoid them at all cost. The study is in three parts.

1. CHARACTERISTICS OF FALSE TEACHERS: Ezekiel 13:1-10; Matthew 7:15-20

Every tree is recognized by the type of fruit it produces. For example, a mango tree will produce
mango fruits, orange tree will produce oranges etc,. In the same way, anyone that is not a true
friend of Jesus will be known by his lifestyle. Some of the characteristics of false teachers are: (i)
They are concerned about their own persoal gain than the word of God. (ii) They twist the word of
God to please man than God. (iii) They love the things of this world more than the things of God.
(iv) They love to seek for power to do miracles than to live a holy life. (v) They appear to be good
outside like a sheep but they are wicked and dangerous like ravening wolves (Matthew 7:15). They
do bad things in the secret and appear holy outside. (vi) They go about with deceitful tongues to
deceive people (Mark 13:22).

2. EXAMPLES OF FALSE TEACHERS: Jeremiah 14:14; Matthew 7:15-20; 24:24;

Acts 8:9-13,18-25
There are many examples of false teachers in the Bible. (a) The magicians in Egypt Exodus 7:11-
12. (b) Balaam – Numbers 22:7-20. (c) The four hundred prophets of Ahab – I Kings 22:1-6. (d)
The old prophet in Bethel – I Kings 13:11-19. (e) Simon – Acts 8:9-13,18-25. Jesus in His warning
to all His friends in these last days said: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets,
and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall
deceive the very elect” (Matthew 24:24). You must beware of false prophets.

3. THE END OF FALSE TEACHERS: Jeremiah 14:14-16; Ezekiel 13:1-10; Matthew 7:19; Jude 15
False teachers are likened to a bad tree. A tree that does not bring up good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into fire and burnt. False teachers and their followers will have their portion in hell fire.
In the same manner, boys and girls who follow these false teachers will experience the following:
(i) They will not have peace, in their heart. (ii) They will not be successful. (iii) They will backslide
and be following the way of the world (iv) They will lose favour with God (v) Their prayers will not
be answered. And if they refuse to repent, they will go to hell fire where they will never see Jesus
and will be tormented forever.
If you are a friend of false teachers or you listen to them, Jesus is calling you today, and is
telling you to repent and come back to Him. Stand up now and ask Jesus to forgive you. Tell Him
you will not follow false teachers again. Henceforth, flee from false teachers, they are deceivers!

QUESTIONS:
1. Who is a false teacher?
2. Mention three characteristics of false teachers.
3. Will false teachers go to heaven? Yes/No?
4. Mention two things that will happen to children who follow, listen and make friends
with false teachers.

MEMORY VERSE: “These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and
their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because
of advantage” (Jude 16).

DANIEL AND HIS FRIENDS: EXAMPLES OF COURAGE
AND OBEDIENCE
Daniel 1:3-19; 3:1-30; 6:1-28.

Daniel and his three friends were Hebrew children. They are of the king’s seeds taken as slaves
from Judah to the land of Babylon.
When they were brought to the land of Babylon their names were changed from: (i) Daniel
to Belteshazzar (ii) Hananiah to Shadrach (iii) Mishael to Meshach (iv) Azariah to Abednego. The
king of Babylon was able to change their names but he could not change their character and love
for God. These Hebrew children showed uncommon example of courage and obedience even in a
strange land. The topic shall be considered under three sub topics:

1. DANIEL’S DISCIPLINE AND OBEDIENCE IN BABYLON: Daniel 1:8; 6:10

Discipline is the practice of training your mind and body so that you control your actions and
obey given rules. It is an act of behaving in a controlled way. Obedience on the other hand, is doing
what you are told to do in the right way. Daniel was a good example of a disciplined and obedient
child. He was able to control his appetite and made up his mind not to eat food that was sacrificed
to idols in the land of Babylon. He also observed his daily and regular prayer. He did not keep bad
friends and he was obedient to the laws of God as he had been taught in Israel. At various times,
Daniel exercised faith in God by praying to know the interpretations to the king’s dream and other
secret things not known to others. Will you not like to be like Daniel?

2. DETERMINATION AND COURAGE OF THE THREE HEBREW CHILDREN: Daniel 3:1-30

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were taught from the word of God on the importance of
worshipping the only true God before they came to Babylon. They stood by what they had been
taught by their parents and teachers in Israel.
They were very courageous and refused the command of the king to worship idols. They
preferred to die rather than disobey God. God honoured their courage and protected them. Their
courage brought honour and glory to the God of Israel. It also brought others to know the greatness
of their God.
God expects you to be like these three children and stand for Him in times of strong
opposition and persecution.

3. LESSONS AND REWARDS FOR COURAGE AND OBEDIENCE: Daniel 1:8,15,20; 3:30
There are many lessons you can learn from these Hebrew children, to make you victorious
and shine for Christ. (i) You must be disciplined and be able to control yourself. (ii) You must pray
daily like Daniel. (iii) The friends you keep determines what your life and future will be, therefore,
keep good and godly friends. (iv) God defends and protects people who obey and honour Him. (v)
You need to be courageous and determined to obey God and be victorious in this evil world. (vi)
Obedience to the word of God brings blessings and glory to God.
These are some of the rewards for all who follow the example of Daniel and his three friends:
(i) Protection (ii) Promotion (iii) Provision (iv) Answers to prayers (v) Power to overcome your
enemies. Above all, you will live with Jesus in heaven forever. These rewards are only for friends of
Jesus. Pray that God will make you to be like Daniel and his three friends.

QUESTIONS:
1. Define discipline and obedience.
2. What were the new names given to the four Hebrew boys?
3. Mention 4 things that you have learnt from their courageous act and obedient life.
4. What must a sinful child do to have courage and obedience like the Hebrew children?

MEMORY VERSE: “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning
fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto
thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou
hast set up” (Daniel 3:17-18).

ALL FOR JESUS

Philippians 3:1-11

The book of Philippians was written by Apostle Paul to all the saints in Philippi. He focused on making
them to discover the joy of living for Christ. ‘All for Christ’ means giving all for the sake of possessing
Christ, at any given time and in every situation. From the moment he became saved, Paul resolved
to follow Christ, do His work and get to heaven at last. He counted all his knowledge of the law and
attainment in religion as nothing to be compared with following Jesus till the end. None of your
good works can save you except you give your life to Jesus Christ and surrender all on the altar for
Him. Our study is divided into three parts:

1. JESUS OUR ALL IN ALL: Isaiah 53:4-6; John 3:16; Colossians 2:9,10
Jesus is our perfect example. He gave all for mankind. He died on the cross at Calvary to save
us from sin and eternal damnation. He is our Saviour, sanctifier, power, healer, provider; indeed
He is our all in all. No wonder, the song writer says “All That I Need Is In Jesus, He Satisfies, Joy
He Supplies”. Have you given your life to Jesus Christ? If not, you need to do so because life will be
worthless without Him. What you desire is what you will acquire. Just as simple as ABC: Admit,
Believe and Confess your sins to Him. Ask Him to forgive and cleanse you with His blood. All that
you need is in Jesus Christ. Accept Him today and surrender to Him.

2. SURRENDER ALL TO JESUS: Philippians 3:7,8; Psalm 73:25; Matthew 19:27

Anything that has value will attract a price. God is our maker and Redeemer; we belong to Him
and all that we have. Paul the Apostle forsook his position, wealth, fame and everything that would
have hindered him from being useful to Christ, His work and heaven. He gave them up to serve
Jesus. These are some of the things you need to surrender for Christ:
Your Life: It belongs to God, you must be saved, set apart for God’s use and be a good example.
Your Time: Spend your time with God and for His service; reading your Bible, praying to God and
preaching the gospel.
Your Talent: Drawing educative pictures, singing in the choir, working as an usher, prayer warrior,
teaching and encouraging others.
Your Treasure: Money and all valuable material things that belongs to you.
As you surrender everything to Christ, He will definitely bless you.

3. BLESSINGS OF GIVING ALL FOR CHRIST: Matthew 19:28,29; John 3:16; 10:10
The first and most important thing that God demands from you is your life. Have you given
your life to Christ? If not, repent, confess and accept Him as Lord and Saviour today. Then you can
begin to give all other things to Him.
When you willingly give all to Christ and count all other things as nothing, God will bless you
abundantly. You will have: (i) unspeakable joy (ii) peace (iii) success (iv) protection and perfect
health (v) answers to your prayers (vi) abundant life (vii) everlasting life with Jesus in heaven. Have
you given your all for Jesus? Rise up and pray.

QUESTIONS:
1. _______________________ is our all in all.
2. Can our good work save us?
3. Mention three things you can surrender to Christ.
4. Mention four blessings you will receive when you give all for Christ.
5. Have your given your life to Christ?

MEMORY VERSE: “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.”
(Philippians 3:7).

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
Psalm 23:1-6; John 10:11-16.

The Fulanis live in the Northern part of Nigeria and their main occupation is cattle rearing (taking
care of cows). They have plenty of cows and take care of them whenever they are sick. During the
dry season, the Fulanis usually take their cows through a long journey to find fresh grasses for
them. They even care for the cows more than themselves. The Fulanis are examples of shepherds.
David, the writer of Psalm 23 was a shepherd boy caring for his father’s sheep on the farm. One
day, as David was caring for the sheep, a bear and a lion came to kill some of the sheep. David did
not run away; he protected the sheep and killed the lion and the bear. His action proved that he
was a good shepherd. David recognised God as his Shepherd who cared for him just as he cared
for his father’s sheep. He had confidence in God. If you trust God, He will take care of you and you
will lack nothing.
The topic is in three parts.

1. DUTIES OF A SHEPHERD: Genesis 46:32; Psalm 23:1-4; Isaiah 40:11.

The shepherd cares for his animals by: (i) guiding and leading the animals to where they will
eat green grasses (graze). (ii) protecting them from being attacked by dangerous animals like the
lion or bear. (iii) killing or scaring off such dangerous animals with his weapons. (iv) searching for
missing animals and bringing them back to the flock. (v) caring for them when they are sick.
If a shepherd can take good care of his animals, our Good Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ can
do more than that for us (Isaiah 40:11).

2. JESUS OUR GOOD SHEPHERD: Psalm 23:1-6; John 10:11,14.

Jesus Christ says that He is the good Shepherd. He knows His sheep and they also know Him.
The sheep of Jesus Christ are boys and girls who have become His friends by confessing and
forsaking their bad ways of life. They live holy lives and hear the voice of the good Shepherd by
reading, studying and obeying the word of God. Boys and girls who are not born again are called
goats because they are stubborn and disobedient to God’s commands. But if they confess and
forsake their sins, they will become the sheep of Jesus and He will care for them as well. Jesus
showed His wonderful love for us by dying on the cross of Calvary to save us from sins and hell fire.
What a loving and good Shepherd He is! David as a young shepherd boy watched over his father’s
sheep. Likewise, Jesus the good Shepherd watches over all His friends to protect them from danger.
Therefore, there is no reason for boys and girls who are the sheep in the fold of the Good Shepherd
to be worried or fearful.

3. REWARDS FOR THE SHEEP OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD: Psalm 23:1-6; Daniel 12:3; I Peter
5:4.
Friends of Jesus who follow Him to the end will: (i) Reign with Jesus and live with Him forever
in heaven. (ii) not lack good things (Psalm 34:10). (iii) be preserved and protected by God (Ezekiel
34:12). (iv) be successful in their examinations. (v) have victory over witches and wizards and (vi)
be perfect in all things (Hebrews 13:20,21).
If you turn away from your bad ways and let Jesus the good Shepherd live in your heart, you
will be saved, sanctified and enjoy all these blessings. There is all-round satisfaction and everlasting
life for true friends of Jesus the Good Shepherd.

QUESTIONS:
1. Who wrote Psalm 23 and what was his occupation?
2. Who is our good Shepherd?
3. How does the shepherd care for his sheep?
4. Who are the sheep of Jesus?
5. Mention some blessings that the sheep who follow Jesus to the end will receive.
6. How can a sinful child become a sheep of Jesus?

MEMORY VERSE: “I am the good Shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the
sheep” (John 10:11).

SATISFACTION IN JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD
Psalm 23:1-6; Philippians 4:19; John 10:11-15.

Satisfy means to do enough or meet the need of somebody or something. Satisfaction is a noun from
the verb word satisfy. It means fulfilment of a need or desire. Mrs. Smith prepared a plate of cereal to
feed her baby. She then put the baby on her laps and fed him. Baby Matthew ate all the cereal. The
mother then put him on her shoulder to rock him to sleep. After about two minutes, baby Matthew
belched and then slept peacefully on his mother’s shoulder. The baby was fully satisfied with the food
which his mother had fed him.
Jesus our good shepherd loves, cares and provides all that we need to be satisfied. If you come to
Him, you will be fed and satisfied like baby Matthew in our story. It is time to come to Him now. Jesus
is waiting to receive you. He is calling you! The study is divided into three parts.

1. THE SHEPHERD’S CARE FOR HIS SHEEP:

Psalm 23:1-5; Isaiah 40:11; Ezekiel 34:11-16.
Friends of Jesus are the Lord’s sheep. They are called the ‘sheep of His pasture’. Jesus Christ cares
and provides for all the needs of His friends. He satisfies His sheep with green pasture (nourishing food)
and gives comfort and refreshment to the weary soul. He saves them from all harm and when danger
and trouble comes, He will deliver them. He then makes them to grow in faith and become holy like Him.
Jesus protects and heals His sheep when they are sick. He watches over them and keeps them from
falling away.
Children that are outside the fold of the Good Shepherd are missing a lot. They are under the daily
torment of Satan and in danger of death and everlasting punishment in hell fire. Jesus the caring and
loving Saviour will save you if you come to Him now (John 6:37).

2. SHEEP’S SATISFACTION THROUGH OBEDIENCE: Psalm 23:1-5; John 10:27; 14:15.

Obedience is one good way to know a true friend of Jesus. Obedience to the shepherd’s voice keeps
the sheep in the proper place and position to enjoy all the good things that the shepherd provides. The
disobedient sheep wanders away from the fold, out of the shepherd’s care, protection and provision. If
he is not quickly recovered, he will be in danger of being lost forever and killed by a wild animal.
Therefore, friends of Jesus must be obedient and remain with Jesus the Good Shepherd to enjoy His
blessings and be satisfied. Jesus the Good Shepherd does not want any of His sheep to suffer or be lost.
Give your life to him, have faith in His promises and be obedient to His word, then you will enjoy the
abundant supply of His goodness and mercies.

3. SEEKING FOR THE LOST SHEEP:

Psalm 23:1-5; Matthew 18:10-14; John 10:14-16; 15:15-16.
The Good Shepherd does not want anyone to be lost forever and to perish in hell fire. He therefore
commands all His friends to go, seek and bring the lost to Him. David in our study did not hide the
testimony of all the good things the Lord had done for him.
The Samaritan woman, after she met Jesus Christ, and became saved, immediately went out to tell
others what the Lord had done for her (John 4:28-30). Having received His love and abundant blessings,
the Good Shepherd expects you to go and bring other boys and girls who are lost in sin and are under
the torment of Satan into His fold. You are to go and share the love of Christ with others through (i)
preaching the gospel to sinners (ii) Showing love to other friends of Jesus (iii) giving to those who are in
need (iv) praying for the sick and (v) showing love and concern for those that are troubled.

QUESTIONS:
1. Jesus is our Good Shepherd. Yes/No?
2. Mention three ways whereby the Good Shepherd cares for His friends.
3. ___________ keeps the sheep in proper place and position to enjoy the shepherd’s care and be
completely satisfied.
4. What does Jesus the Good Shepherd command His friends to do with those who are lost?
5. Mention three ways in which friends of Jesus can share the love of Christ.

MEMORY VERSE: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep”
(John 10:11).
