CHAPTER 12: OTHER OBJECT LESSONS
From the previous lesson, we’ve come to know about the different Lessons of life
particularly the ones derive from the sowing of a seed -the whole process of it. This chapter is a
continuation of the previous one. But this time around, it talks about God’s healing power that
runs through nature. Even before the need exists, the healing agencies are in readiness; and as
soon as the part is wounded, every energy is bent to the work of restoration. Before sin created
the need, God had provided the remedy. Every soul that yields to temptation is wounded, bruised
by the adversary. But the good news is-wherever there is sin, THERE IS THE SAVIOR. Luke
4:18 points out that Christ’s work extended from healing the brokenhearted, preaching
deliverance to the captives and liberty to the bruised. What a great God He is. He who has been
marred and wounded by sin, is to be reclaimed, healed, re-established.
One agency God has established which has a wonderful power of healing is agency of
love. Only the love that flows from the heart of Christ can heal. And only he in whom love
flows, can restore the wounded soul. The stars also have a message of good cheer for every
human being. The stars above reminds of one Creator upon whom all life flows. In the darkness
of the night, in the obstacles of life, we have a great God in heaven who never fails. Just ponder
on the palm trees, beaten by the scorching sun and the fierce sandstorms, yet they stand green
and flourishing and fruitful in the midst of the desert. Any traveler lost in the wilderness, will
feel a new spring of hope and where urge to move faster when they took sight of the crown of a
palm tree.
The trees of the desert symbolize the purpose of God’s children. They are to guide weary
souls, full unrest, and ready to perish in the desert of sin, to the living water. They are to point
their fellow men to Him who gives the invitation. Many lives were wasted because they search
for pointless things. They search for recognition, they aim for respect and authority, they strive
power and wealth. Talents are now too much idolized and coveted. What we need to learn is
faithfulness in making use of the powers and opportunities we have, and contentment in the lot to
which Heaven assigns us.
This leads us to the last point, a lesson of trust. While nature has been a consistent lesson
book, God uses the animals themselves to be His teachers. The ants teach lessons of patient
industry, of perseverance in surmounting obstacles, and providence for the future. While the
birds teach of the sweet lesson of trust. While they continue on with busy lives of building their
nest, nurturing their young. God had been their constant providers. And though they are
surrounded by enemies, yet how cheerily they go about their work. How full of joys are their
little songs.
Reflection:
We may be surrounded with difficulties, discouragement, and darkness. Falsehood,
calamities and injustice may shut us in. There are heavy clouds that we cannot dispel. We battle
with circumstances in vain. But there is one escape. While the mist and fogs cling to the earth,
beyond the clouds God’s light is shining. Into the sunlight of His presence we may rise on the
wings of faith. He alone who recognizes in nature his Father’s handiwork, who in the richness
and beauty of the earth reads the Father’s handwriting- he alone learns from the things of nature
their deepest lessons, and receives their highest ministry. He alone can fully appreciate the hills
and vales, rivers and seas, who looks upon them as an expression of the thought of God, a
revelation of the Creator. The ending lines of this topic in the book education goes like this; “To
those who acquaint themselves with Christ, the earth will nevermore to be a lonely desolate
place. It will be their Father’s house filled with the presence of Him who once dwelt among
men.”
