Advice Needed
In this enjoyable group activity, students practice giving advice to each other.

Before class, make one copy of the cards for each group of four and cut as indicated.

Procedure

Write the following on the board:

What should I do?

I (don’t) think you should...
You should(n't)...

Go through how to ask for and give advice using one of the cards as an example.

Next, divide the students into groups of four and give each group a set of shuffled cards.

Tell the students to place the cards face down in a pile on the desk.

Students take it in turns to pick up a card and read out the situation to the group. Then the
student asks the question on the card.

The other group members then each give a different piece of advice using the target
language from the board.

The student gives the card to whoever he/she thinks has given the best advice and says
'That’s a good idea. I’ll do that'.

Then the next student picks up a card and the process is repeated.

When all the cards are finished, the person with the most cards is the winner.

Finally, ask the class what the best advice was for each situation.
