III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

A. Preparatory

1. Greetings
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon ma’am!

2. Routines
a. Prayer
b. Checking of attendance

3. Review

Before we proceed to our lesson let’s have first a

short review of our lesson yesterday.

What is a point? A point has no dimension, it is represented by a

dot.

What is a line? A line is a set of points in a straight path

represented by two arrow heads .

What are the 2 parts of line? Ray and line segment.

What is the difference between the 2? Ray is part of a line that has one end point and
one arrow head while line segment is also
part of a line that has two end points .

Very good class!

4. Motivation

Class I have here a video clip and I want all of you

to really focus and take the message of the video.

( show video clip ) ( Students will watch the video clip )

Now class did you like the video? Yes ma’am.

What have you seen most in the video? We’ve seen a lot of circles.
Okay, so what do you think our lesson is all
about? About circle.

Very good! Now, since you already have an idea

about our lesson for today let me read to you our
lesson objectives.
At the end the lesson, the students will be able
to:
1. Define a circle and its parts
2. Relate circle in real-life situation
3. Solve problems involving circle

B. Developmental Activities

1. Activity

Yesterday I told you to bring a short bond paper, Yes ma’am.

a pen, and a ruler right?

Does everybody have it now? Yes ma’am.

Very good class!

I let you bring that because we will be using that

for our activity today. And for our activity, all you
have to do is to just follow my instructions
because I will be giving a chance to spin our
‘Wheel of Fortune’ to get some prizes at the end
of the class for the first 3 students who can finish
and do it correctly. Understood? Yes ma’am.

Okay, now let’s do it. Are you ready?

Here’s the instructions: Ready!
1. Write your name on the paper.
2. Draw a point somewhere in the
middle of the paper.
3. Using a ruler, mark 10 another
points that are having a distance of
10 cm from the first point.
4. If you’re done, just raise your paper ( Students will do the activity )
and I will collect to check and
identify who are the first 3 lucky
winners.
Wow, very good class. So later after our class I
will announce the winners who will spin the
wheel.

Anyone who has an idea what a circle is?

Yes, very good! Ma’am a circle is a perfectly round shape.

Based on our activity earlier, you can see that

points that are having the same distance from a
fixed point formed a round shape or circle.

Because a CIRCLE is the set of all points that are

the same distance from a fixed point called the
center.
I have here a circle, what do you see inside the
circle?
I can see a point at the center and a capital letter
A.
A
Okay, this point at the middle is called Center or
the Central point. This is the first part of a circle.

Circles are named through their center or central

point. So for example, this circle is named as
Circle A.

Let me give you another examples, you have to

name the following circles:

G That is Circle G.

That is Circle O.

That is Circle D.

Wow! Very good class.

Next let’s discuss about RADIUS.

Everybody please read the definition of radius.
RADIUS is a line segment joining the center and a
G
point on the circle.

Thank you class.

So if we are going to join point A or the center of
the circle to point G that will become AG (line
segment AG) and this is now the radius of Circle
A.
All radii in a circle have equal length. Radii is a
plural form of the word radius.

The other part of a circle is DIAMETER.

Everybody please read what is Diameter. DIAMETER is a line segment that passes through
the center of the circle. The central point is the
G midpoint of the diameter.

Thank you class.

So if we are going to join point G and point N
which passes through the center that will become
GN (line segment GN) and this is now the
diameter of Circle A.

A Diameter divides the circle into two equal

parts. Also, the measurement of the diameter is
twice as the measurement of the radius. So for
example the radius of circle A is 5 cm, how long is
the diameter of the circle?
Ma’am the diameter is 10 cm.
Exactly!

The next part of a circle is CHORD.

Please everybody read what is Chord.
CHORD is a line segment whose endpoints are on
a circle.
G

A
N
E

Thank you class.

So if we are going to join point N and point E that
will become NE (line segment NE) and this is now
the chord of Circle A. We can also join point E and
point G to form another chord. Also the diameter
itself can be considered as a chord. This will
become the longest chord in a circle.

Let’s proceed to the next term related to circle

which is SECANT. Again, Everybody please read
what is Secant? SECANT is a line that intersects a circle in two
points.
G

Thank you so much class.

If we extend the chord GE outside the circle that
will become GE (line GE) and this is now the
secant of Circle A.

Last part of a circle is TANGENT. Class what is a

Tangent? TANGENT is a line that intersects a circle at
exactly one point.
S
m

If a line m passes through point S, this line will be

the Tangent of Circle A. The point where a
tangent line touches or intersects the circle is
called the Point of Tangency. So from the
illustration, what is the point tangency?
Point S ma’am.
Very good. So class those are the parts of a circle.

Now, going back to our wheel of fortune. I will

give all of you another chances to spin it and get
some prizes. Whoever answers my questions
correctly will be added to the 3 lucky students
earlier to spin the wheel of fortune after the
class. Remember, if you want to answer just raise
your hand silently and wait for me to call your
name, I will not entertain noisy students.
Now, are you ready?
Yes ma’am.
2. Analysis

Now class, what makes secant and tangent

different from other parts of a circle? The radius, diameter, and chord are just line
segments which can be found inside the circle
while secant and tangent are lines that intersect
a circle.
Which is correct all chords are diameters or all
diameters are chords? All diameters are considered as chords but not all
chords are considered as diameters because not
all chords passes through the center of the circle.

Excellent class! Do you have any questions or

clarifications about our topic?
None ma’am.
Okay, now let’s have some recap of our lesson.

3. Abstraction

So again, what is a circle?

Ma’am a circle is a set of all points that are the
same distance from the fixed point called center.
What are the different parts of a circle or terms
related to it? The parts of the circle are the center or the
central point, radius, diameter, chord, secant,
and tangent.
Very good class! Now let’s try who can answer
the following questions.

4. Application
Using a clock, I will be giving different times. You
have to imagine or just draw it on a scratch paper
what part of a circle is formed with the time I will
be giving. Understood?
Yes ma’am.
Okay let’s start.
1. 12:33
2. 1:05 1. diameter
3. 12:00 2. radius
4. 11:27 3. radius
5. 10:55 4. diameter
5. radius
Another questions:
1. A circular pool has a diameter of 9
meters. What is the radius of the pool? 1. 4.5 meters
2. A pizza has a radius of 2 inches. What is
the diameter of the pizza? 2. 4 inches
3. A wheel has a diameter of 15 inches. Its
radius 7. True or false? 3. False, because 15 divided 2 is 7.5 not 7.
