Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

I. Objectives
a. Determine the relation among chords, arcs, and angles of a circle.
b. Find the measure of chords, arcs, and angles of a circle.
c. Value accumulated knowledge as means of new understanding.

II. Learning Tasks

A. Subject Matter
Relation Among the Chords, Arcs and Angles of a Circle
B. Concept/ Ideas
1. Chord- a segment joining any two points on the circle.
2. Semicircle- It is one half of a circle and measures 180°.
3. Angle- It is formed when two straight lines or rays meet at a common endpoint.
4. Arc- It is part of a circle between two points on the circle.
5. Minor arc- is less than a semicircle.
6. Major arc- is greater than a semicircle.
7. The measure of the diameter of a circle is twice the radius.
8. The measure of the minor arc is equal to the measure of the central angle which
intercepts the arc.
9. The measure of an inscribed angle is one half the measure of the arc intercepted by
this angle
10. The measure of a major arc is equal to 360 minus the measure of the minor arc with
the same endpoints.

B. Review
Last week, you have learned on
introduction to chords, arcs, and angles
of a circle. Now, before we proceed to
another sub-topic of a circle, we have
here a circle, who can identify and draw
on the board the chord, minor arcs, Students will answer on the board.
major arcs, central angles and inscribed
angles?

Very Good!

You really had listened to the discussion

last week.

Do you have questions regarding the None ma’am.

previous lesson?

C. Motivation

This time, I will be grouping you into

three. Please count 1-3. Now, you have
your group already, right? At the count
of 5 you have to be in your group and Yes ma’am.
make a circle. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Class, as you can see I have here three

envelopes containing letters. Each letter
corresponds to an answer. Each group is
given the task to complete the missing (Students are listening)
boxes shown by answering numbers
assigned in your group. The answers will
be chosen on the letters with the
corresponding answer.

After that, you need to paste the letters

on the boxes to form a word then paste
it on the board. Whoever group will
finish the work first will be given the
points. Am I clear? Yes ma’am.

You can start now.

 Answering and giving of

points follow.

What word did you formed? RELATION ma’am.

Alright, Very good!

D. Presentation
Now based on the activity, do you have
now the idea of what will be our lesson Yes ma’am.
for today?

What do you think will our lesson for It is all about the relation ma’am.
today? Yes ____.

Very good!

Our lesson for today is a sub-topic of a

circle which is the “Relation among (Students are listening)
Chords, Arcs, Angles of a Circle” as well
as we will be finding the measures of
chords, arcs, and angles of a circle.

E. Discussion

Now class, we will determine the

relationship and measurement of each (Students are listening)
term of a circle.

1. The diameter of a circle is twice a

radius and radii of the same circle
are congruent.

For example:
In circle A, AD ꓕ CB. If AD = 15 cm, what The measure of AC and AB is 15 ma’am
is the measure of AC? , AB?, CF? Why? because they are both radius while the CF
is 30 cm because it is a diameter and it is
twice the radius which is both 15 cm.

Very good!

The AC and AB are both radii so they

will be 15 cm and CF is a diameter, and
it is twice the radius therefore it will
become 30 cm.

Do you understand? Yes ma’am.

2. The degree measure of the arc is
the measure of the central angle
which intercepts the arc.

For example:
In circle O, we have two diameters, The measure of arc AC and DB will be both
right? The AB and CD. If ∠AOC = 55°, 55° ma’am because the measure of central
then what will be the measure of AC͡ angle is equal to the measure of its
͡ ͡
and DB?, AB? Why? intercepted arc while for arc AB the
measure will be 180°.

Very good!

It has been said that the measure of

central angle which intercepted the
arc will be the degree measure of
the arc.

How about in A͡B, why is it the

answer is 180°? It is a semicircle ma’am and the measure
of a semicircle is 180°.
Very good!

3. The measure of an inscribed angle is

one-half the measure of the central
angle intercepting the same arc.
4. The measure of a major arc is equal
to 360 minus the measure of the
minor arc with the same end points.

For example:
In circle O, if m ∠ABC = 28° what will
be the measure of AC ͡ and CBA? The measure of arc AC is 56° ma’am
Why? because the inscribed angle is 28° which is
the half measure of the central angle
intercepting the arc. For arc CBA which is
the major arc the measure is 304° because
it is subtracted from the measure of minor
arc with the same end points.
Very good!

Do you now understand the

relationship of different terms of a Yes ma’am.
circle?

Okay, let us proceed now to the

activity.

F. Application
In ½ crosswise, find the following using
the figure below:

Given: ∠AEB = 52° and CB = 15 cm

then what is; Students will answer.

a. CA
b. m ∠ACB a. CA = 15 cm
c. m A͡B b. m ∠ACB = 104°
d. m ADB c. m A͡B = 104°
d. m ADB = 256°
G. Generalization
1. What is the measure of a
semicircle?
2. What is chord of a circle?
3. What is the relation between the
measure of the radius and the (Refer to the concept/ ideas)
measure of the diameter?
4. What is the relation between the
measure of the minor arc and the
measure of the central angle?
5. What is the relation between the
inscribed angle and the central
angle intercepting the same arc?

Very good!
IV. Assessment
In ½ crosswise, find the following using the given figure:
Given: OA = 10 cm, A͡T = 90°

1. m SA
2. m ∠AKT
3. m ∠ACT
4. m TCA
5. m ∠AOT

V. Assignment
Follow Up: Using the figure, answer the following:
Given: AO = 5 cm, ∠AOB = 120°

1. m OB
2. m ∠APB
3. m A͡B
4. m BQA
5. m ∠AQB
