Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. illustrate a circle and terms related to it;
b. construct terms related to circle; and
c. explain the importance of circle in our daily lives

II. Subject Matter

Circle and Their Related Terms
Reference/s: Mathematics Grade 7/Learner’s Material/DepEd/2013/pp.233-236
Materials: Cut outs of circles, PowerPoint presentation

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom management
4. Checking of Attendance
5. Review (Quadrilateral)
B. Motivation
The students will have a short activity. They will complete the images by arranging the
broken pieces of images. They will paste it on the folder and board to show their image.
The teacher will ask this question:
1. What did observe about the images shown during your activity?
C. Lesson Proper
A circle is a set of points equidistant from a fixed point. The fixed point is called the
center of the circle. It is named using capital letter.
To have a good understanding of circles, you need to identify their parts and some terms
related to them.

o A radius is a segment from the center of the circle to

any point of a circle.
P R
T S
o Chord is a segment whose endpoints are any two points on a circle.
P

o Diameter is a chord that passes through the center of a circle.

It is the longest chord and it is twice the length of a circle’s radius.
Q R
P

o Secant is a line that contains a chord and intersects the circle at T S

exactly two points.

o Tangent is a line in the plane of a circle that intersects the U V

circle at exactly one point.

o The point of tangency is a point where the line and P

a circle intersects.

W
o Central angle is an angle whose vertex is the center of the circle.

o Arc is a portion of the circle determined by central angle. Y

P

D. Application
The teacher will divide the class into several groups. Each group will answer the
questions that will be appear on the screen. All they have to do is to raise their answer.
E. Generalization
To summarize the lesson, the teacher will ask the following questions to the students:
1. What is a circle?
2. What are the terms related to circle that we've been discussed?
3. Imagine your life without a circle, how important is it in our lives?

IV. Evaluation
A. TRUE or FALSE. Determine if the statement is TRUE or FALSE.
__________1. All chords are diameter
__________2. Secant contains a chord
__________3. Diameter is half of a radius.
__________4. All diameters are chord
__________5. We can name a circle using its radius
__________ 6. Center is the fixed point of a circle
__________ 7. Diameter is twice of the radius
_________ 8. Center is a point of tangency
_________ 9. Circle is a set of points which is not equidistant from a fixed point
_________ 10. Central angle is an angle whose vertex is the center of the circle.
B. Construct the following terms on the given circle L.
1. A radius (LO)
2. A diameter (VE)
3. A secant (KI)
4. A tangent (ND) L
5. A central angle ALO

V. Assignment

List 3 examples or objects that are related or connected to the following terms related to circles.
1. Radius
2. Chord
3. Diameter
4. Secant
5. Tangent
6. Point of tangency
7. Central angle
8. Arc

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a. Differentiates between constants and variables in a given algebraic expression
b. Evaluates the algebraic expressions for given values of the variables

II. Subject Matter

EVALUATING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS USING GIVEN
VALUES OF VARIABLES.
Reference/s: Mathematics Grade 7/Learner’s Material/DepEd/2013
Materials: powerpoint and tiles

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom management
4. Checking of Attendance
B. Motivation
The teacher will show some pictures and the student will guess what is behind the
pictures.
The teacher will ask this question:
1. What did observe about the images shown?

C. Lesson Proper
The teacher will discuss the meaning of algebraic expression, constant and variables and
give examples.

The student will identify the constant and variable in the given algebraic expressions.
The teacher will use the tiles to evaluate the algebraic expression using values of
variables. Show some example on the board. Later on, the student will try it also on the
board.

D. Application
The teacher will divide the class into several groups. Each group will evaluate the
expression using tiles and post it on the board to discuss their work.

E. Generalization
To summarize the lesson, the teacher will ask the following questions to the students:
1. What is algebraic expression?
2. What are the terms related to algebraic expression?
3. How will you evaluate the algebraic expression?

IV. Evaluation
The student will make their own algebraic expression using the substituting the values in
to variable and also by means of tiles. In each algebraic expression, there are two process to be
done in order to justify that it has the same answer even though they used different strategy.

V. Assignment
I. Give at least 10 algebraic expressions
II. Evaluate the algebraic expression written in part I.
