WHAT IS THIS MODULE ABOUT?
LESSON 1
The lesson deals with interpersonal and intrapersonal skills with the
patron; analysis of scalp and hair condition; and tools and equipment are
prepared in accordance with salon policies. This will also include measure
for the security and safety of client and operator before
treatment.
Pre - Test
Patron’s care means looking after his/her safety and making sure
that he/she is comfortable, satisfied with the service and safely attended.
This begins when the client/patron enters the salon and continues until
he/she leaves.
Consultation
Patrons expect the salon to be clean. They expect that good hygiene is
maintained.
There are various kinds of hair and scalp treatment, the two most
common kinds are:
Ask the patron which hair and scalp treatment he/she prefers, as this
may need different kinds of materials and treatment products to be used.
Once patron has arrived for an appointment and you have taken
care of his/her belongings, find out what services have been requested
and prepare patron accordingly.
Use only good quality tools to avoid damaging the hair and apply
them gently and correctly.
A good brush will penetrate and grip the hair and allow you to
place the hair where you want it.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
Bounce – springiness

The hair is a valuable natural fiber and to get it looking its best you
should treat it with as much care as you could. Hair is very resilient.
With care and attention, you should be able to restore its bounce and
glossy sheen.
Your hair type is inherited, but learning to make the most of what
you have can make a difference to the look, feel and texture of your
crowning glory.

Imagine a spa right in your own home. Many of the ingredients here can
be found right in your kitchen. Simple ingredients which you may find
are surprisingly beneficial in a lot of ways.
Think relaxing, natural recipes to take the stress of your hair. Take
some time off during busy day and indulge yourself to any of these
treats. These are basic recipes so feel free to add a few personal touches
like favorite essential oil.
Ingredients:
• 1 egg
• ½ of an avocado fruit (ripe)
• 2 tablespoons of oil (olive, coconut, sunflower or baby oil)
Put all together in a blender and process until frothy. Add avocado and
oil and blend until smooth. Apply as you would a conditioner, to clean,
damp hair and leave for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly or shampoo off.
The egg (rich in many vitamins) and the oil provide further moistening
properties.
Why It Works?

Avocados contain natural oils that are easily absorbed by the skin and
hair. It is a good source of vitamins A, B and E, amino acids and sterols
and mineral salts such as potassium, magnesium and calcium. The oil in
avocados is known to be restorative that moisturizes and soothes the
skin.
NOTE: This local product can be used once a week. Other varieties
can work like mayonnaise/puree coconut extract/yogurt
honey etc.

Procedure:
1. Ask about the previous hair and scalp treatment of the patron.
2. Drape the patron accordingly.
3. Prepare the patron for shampooing, don’t apply conditioner as it
may cause the hair cuticle to open.
4. Prepare the treatment product according to the volume and
texture of the hair. Read and follow the manufacturer’s directions.
5. Section the hair accordingly.
6. Appropriate hair, layer by layer.
7. The hair treatment product contains a creamy substance which
includes beads – like substance, the purpose of which is to scan
the damaged hair.
8. Leave the treatment product in the hair for 15-30 minutes
depending on the level of damage of the hair.
9. Prepare the hair iron and wrap the blades of the hair iron with an
aluminum foil.
10. Ensure the heat to work out freely for the said timeline.
11. Apply ironing technique for hair reborn.
12. Get a strand of hair with the comb with tail in a paper-thin
manner and iron it by damping/pressing the iron along the
strands of hair until you reach the tip of the hair.
13. Observe the hair if it becomes stiff.
14. After ironing, let the hair cool off for 10 minutes in order to
release the accumulated heat.
15. Rinse the hair with running water.
16. Towel dry hair and use blow dryer until it is 85% dry.
17. Remove the aluminum foil from the hair iron.
18. Set the hair iron up to 130° C.
19. Iron hair for final touch.
20. Comb and style the hair.
21. Dispose used supplies and materials properly.
22. Clean and maintain the working area.
23. Store unused materials, supplies and products in accordance
with salon policies.

needed.
2. The operator washes and sanitizes the hands.
3. Prepare and drape the patron accordingly for a shampoo.
4. Examine the scalp and hair condition.
5. Shampoo and towel dry the hair.
6. Blow dry the hair in an 80% dry condition.
7. Comb the hair.

B. Manipulation steps:
1. Section hair into 4 equal parts
a) Part the hair at the center from the facial hairline to the
crown for at least 2 inches.
b) Comb the hair downward to the back of the right ear.
c) Do the same step to the back of the left ear.
d) Hold the hair with hair clamps.
e) Part the back area into two and secure the hair with hair
clamps.
2. Apply the heated oil (commercially prepared/ locally prepared),
section by section, from the scalp to the hair ends.
3. Give scalp manipulation.
4. Place the treated head of hair under a heating cap/thermal cap for
10-20 minutes, depending on the type of and scalp condition.
5. Shampoo the hair.
6. Rinse hair thoroughly
7. Towel dry the hair.
8. Press the hair.

best, treat it with much care.
The hair is the crowning glory of every person, so care and attention
should be restored.
Patrons with thinning or troublesome hair must massage their
scalp every time they shampoo, as this stimulates the scalp,
increasing blood flow.
The key to glossy, clean looks of hair is rinse and rinse again.
