EASA AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

AD No.: 2015-0044

Date: 13 March 2015

Note: This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is issued by EASA, acting in accordance with Regulation
(EC) No 216/2008 on behalf of the European Community, its Member States and of the
European third countries that participate in the activities of EASA under Article 66 of that
Regulation.

This AD is issued in accordance with EU 748/2012, Part 21.A.3B. In accordance with EU 1321/2014 Annex I, Part M.A.301, the
continuing airworthiness of an aircraft shall be ensured by accomplishing any applicable ADs. Consequently, no person may operate an
aircraft to which an AD applies, except in accordance with the requirements of that AD, unless otherwise specified by the Agency [EU
1321/2014 Annex I, Part M.A.303] or agreed with the Authority of the State of Registry [EC 216/2008, Article 14(4) exemption].

Supersedure: None

ATA 24 Electrical Power – Terminal Lugs – Inspection / Replacement

Manufacturer(s): Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH (AHD) (formerly Eurocopter

Deutschland GmbH), Airbus Helicopters Inc. (formerly American Eurocopter
LLC).

Applicability: MBB-BK117 C-2 helicopters, serial numbers (s/n) as listed in Appendix 1 of

this AD.

Reason: It has been discovered that terminal lugs with incorrect crimping may have been
installed on some MBB-BK117 C-2 helicopters in production. In addition, an
incorrect crimping die or crimp tool setting may have been used to terminate the
lugs. Incorrect crimping may adversely affect contact resistance and gas-
tightness of the contact between wire and terminal lug.
This condition, if not detected and corrected, could lead to the loss of electrical
power during flight.
To address this unsafe condition, AHD issued Alert Service Bulletin (ASB)
MBB-BK117 C-2-24A-013 to provide instructions for visual inspection and
replacement of terminal lugs.
For the reason described above, this AD requires a one-time visual inspection
of terminal lugs and replacement of affected lugs if incorrect crimping is found.
